*Olive Plantation Initiative in Soon Valley*
Soon Valley Development Program (SVDP), in collaboration with the Agriculture Extension Department, Tehsil Naushera, and Agrixum Nursery Farm, Naushera, successfully distributed 1,000 free olive plants among local farmers today. This initiative reflects SVDP’s strong commitment to its vision and mission of promoting sustainable livelihoods, climate-resilient agriculture, and environmentally friendly economic development in rural communities.
The primary objective of this initiative is to promote olive cultivation in Soon Valley by encouraging farmers to adopt olive farming as a high-value and long-term income-generating crop. Soon Valley possesses suitable climatic and soil conditions for olive cultivation, making it a strategic region for the promotion of olive orchards. By providing quality olive saplings free of cost, SVDP aims to reduce the initial financial burden on farmers and motivate them to diversify their crops toward more profitable and sustainable agricultural practices.
This plantation drive is part of SVDP’s broader plan for the development of Soon Valley, with a long-term vision to transform the region into a recognized “Zaitoon (Olive) Valley.” The initiative supports food security, environmental conservation, and economic empowerment of small farmers by introducing climate-smart agriculture practices. Olive cultivation not only offers a sustainable source of income but also contributes to soil conservation, reduced water usage compared to traditional crops, and improved ecological balance.
The Agriculture Extension Department, Tehsil Naushera, provided technical guidance and awareness to farmers regarding proper plantation techniques, plant care, and future management of olive orchards. Agrixum Nursery Farm ensured the supply of healthy and high-quality olive plants suitable for the local environment. This collaborative approach strengthens institutional linkages between the public sector, private sector, and farming communities, ensuring better outcomes and long-term sustainability of the initiative.
SVDP plans to continue similar interventions in the near future, including farmer training sessions, technical support, follow-up monitoring, and facilitation of market linkages for olive produce. These efforts are aligned with SVDP’s mission to promote sustainable rural development, enhance agricultural productivity, and improve the socio-economic conditions of farming communities in Soon Valley.
