Down Memory Lane:
Defence Day celebrations at National Stadium in Karachi September 6, 1996. (Scroll down for more details in English)

ماضی کے جھروکوں سے:
پاکستان کے ہر دلعزیز رہنما ، پیپلز پارٹی کے چیئرمین اور وزیراعظم جناب ذوالفقار علی بھٹو یوم پاکستان، یوم آزادی اور یوم دفاع وغیرہ کی تقریبات عوامی طریقے سے مناتے تھے وہ قومی نغمے گانے والوں کے ساتھ شریک ہو جاتے اور ان کے ساتھ قومی نغمہ گاتے اور بعد ازاں اسکولوں کے بچوں اور ان کے والدین کے ساتھ گھل مل جاتے تھے۔ اپنے والد کی انہی روایات کو ان کی صاحبزادی محترمہ بے نظیر بھٹو نے بھی برقرار رکھا۔ 1996 میں وہ جب دوسری بار وزیر اعظم تھیں تو اس سال انہوں نے 6 ستمبر یوم دفاع عوامی طریقے سے منایا اور یہ تقریب کراچی میں نیشنل اسٹیڈیم میں منعقد کی جس میں اسکولوں کے بچوں اور ان کے والدین ، پیپلز پارٹی کے کارکنوں اور عام شہریوں کی ایک بڑی تعداد نے شرکت کی اور ملک کی حفاظت کی خاطر اپنی جانوں کا نذرانہ پیش کرنے والے فوجیوں کو خراج تحسین پیش کیا۔ اس تقریب کے انتظامات کو حتمی شکل دینے میں جہاں فوج اور سرکاری عملے نے حصہ لیا وہاں اس کے انتظامات کی تشکیل پیپلز پارٹی کراچی کی تنظیم نے بھی کی جس میں کارکنوں کے استاد سید مسرور احسن اور ان کی ٹیم نے بڑھ چڑھ کر حصہ لیا۔ وزیر اعظم محترمہ بے نظیر بھٹو صاحبہ کو ایک بگھی میں اسٹیڈیم لایا گیا اور انہوں نے اس میں اسٹیڈیم کا چکر لگا یا اور کارکنوں اور شہریوں کے پُر جوش نعروں کا ہاتھ ہلا کر جواب دیا۔ تقریب میں کراچی پیپلز پارٹی کے کارکنوں کی جانب سے محترمہ بےنظیر بھٹو کو ان کی جمہوری جدوجہد کو خراجِ تحسین پیش کرتے ہوئے ایک شیلڈ بھی پیش کی گئی۔ بعد ازاں ایک بڑا میوزیکل کنسرٹ منعقد کیا گیا جس میں پاکستان بھر کے سنگرز اور دیگر فنکاروں نے ررات پھر عوام کو اپنے فن سے محظوظ کیا۔

Down Memory Lane:
Pakistan's beloved leader, Chairman of the People's Party and Prime Minister, Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, used to celebrate Pakistan Day, Independence Day, and Defense Day, etc., in a public manner. He would join those singing the national anthem and sing along with them. Afterwards, he would mingle with the school children and their parents.
His daughter, the Honorable Benazir Bhutto, also upheld these very traditions of her father. In 1996, during her second term as Prime Minister, she publicly celebrated Defense Day on the 6th of September that year. This ceremony was held at the National Stadium in Karachi, attended by a large number of school children and their parents, People's Party workers, and ordinary citizens, to pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country's defense.
While the military and government staff were involved in finalizing the arrangements for this event, the People's Party Karachi organization also helped organize it, with workers like Ustad Syed Masroor Ahsan and his team participating enthusiastically. Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was brought to the stadium in a horse-drawn carriage (buggy); she took a lap around the stadium in it and waved in response to the enthusiastic slogans of the workers and citizens.
At the ceremony, the Karachi People's Party workers also presented a shield to the Honorable Benazir Bhutto as a tribute to her democratic struggle. Later, a large musical concert was held, where singers and other artists from all over Pakistan entertained the public with their art throughout the night.
