A one-day seminar for Nikkah Khawan was held on 15 November 2025 in Mardan under the UNFPA Workplan 2025.
Mr. Asghar Khan opened the session by welcoming participants and highlighting the key role of Nikkah Khawan as respected community figures who can promote responsible family planning, better marital understanding, and awareness of family responsibilities.
Mr. Imtiaz Ahmad (DDPWO) presented the demographic profile of District Mardan, explaining population trends and the Tawazun Narrative, which focuses on balancing population growth with available resources. He emphasized the role of Nikkah Khawan in encouraging responsible parenthood, birth preparedness, health awareness, and education.
Syed Imran Shah (Director PME/FP, UNFPA) delivered a detailed presentation on the importance of pre-marital counseling, stressing how it prepares couples for mutual expectations, communication, and shared decision-making.
He noted that Nikkah Khawan can significantly contribute by guiding couples on health, finances, family size, emotional readiness, and overall marital harmony.
In closing, Mr. Asghar Khan thanked all participants and expressed gratitude to UNFPA. He also conveyed acknowledgements on behalf of Dr. Aneela Mehfooz Durrani and Ms. Ayesha Ihsan for their leadership and support.
He hoped the knowledge shared would be effectively applied by Nikkah Khawan in their communities.
