A one-day seminar for Nikkah Khawan was held on 15 November 2025 in Mardan under the UNFPA Workplan 2025.

Mr. Asghar Khan opened the session by welcoming participants and highlighting the key role of Nikkah Khawan as respected community figures who can promote responsible family planning, better marital understanding, and awareness of family responsibilities.

Mr. Imtiaz Ahmad (DDPWO) presented the demographic profile of District Mardan, explaining population trends and the Tawazun Narrative, which focuses on balancing population growth with available resources. He emphasized the role of Nikkah Khawan in encouraging responsible parenthood, birth preparedness, health awareness, and education.

Syed Imran Shah (Director PME/FP, UNFPA) delivered a detailed presentation on the importance of pre-marital counseling, stressing how it prepares couples for mutual expectations, communication, and shared decision-making.

He noted that Nikkah Khawan can significantly contribute by guiding couples on health, finances, family size, emotional readiness, and overall marital harmony.

In closing, Mr. Asghar Khan thanked all participants and expressed gratitude to UNFPA. He also conveyed acknowledgements on behalf of Dr. Aneela Mehfooz Durrani and Ms. Ayesha Ihsan for their leadership and support.
He hoped the knowledge shared would be effectively applied by Nikkah Khawan in their communities.

The Population Welfare Department, Mardan successfully conducted a one-day training workshop for its field staff on 14th November, 2025 at Alhamra Hall, Jail Road, Mardan. The workshop was organized under the department’s ongoing capacity-building initiatives and was specifically designed to advocate and ensure the effective implementation of the Reproductive Health (RH) Act, 2020.
The primary objective of the training was to enhance the knowledge and skills of field functionaries regarding the key provisions of the RH Act, 2020 and to strengthen their ability to deliver quality reproductive health services at the community level. During the session, participants were briefed on the legal framework, rights-based service delivery, responsibilities of field staff, reporting mechanisms and the importance of community awareness for achieving improved reproductive health outcomes.
Expert resource persons delivered comprehensive presentations and interactive discussions to ensure that the staff clearly understood their roles in implementing the Act. The workshop also provided an opportunity for staff to share field-level challenges and receive guidance for better service delivery.
Overall, the training was an important step toward enhancing institutional efficiency, ensuring compliance with the RH Act, 2020 and reinforcing the department’s commitment to promoting accessible, equitable and quality reproductive health services to the community.

The Population Welfare Department, Mardan successfully conducted an Advocacy Seminar on the “Tawazun Narrative” on 13th November, 2025 at Bacha Khan Medical College, Mardan. The primary objective of this seminar was to engage students in promoting balanced, responsible and positive social narratives in line with the goals of the Tawazun Initiative. This initiative aims to foster awareness on population dynamics, gender balance and sustainable social development across academic institutions.
The seminar featured expert speakers who delivered insightful presentations designed to enhance students understanding of key population issues, the importance of gender equality and the role of informed youth in achieving sustainable societal progress. Faculty members, administrative staff and a large number of students from the medical college actively participated, making the event both interactive and impactful.
