The Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) is an organization, serves as an apex institution for In-Service training of public schools teachers, educational managers and one stop shop for capacity building needs of school teachers in Punjab, and furthering the National Education Policy by focusing on the professional development of public sector’s teacher and equipp

ing them with modern and innovative teaching techniques and methodologies by providing leadership and strategic planning to the sector. PECTAA is striving to develop a pool of capable teachers in public schools of the province. Capitalizing on a strong institutional base, including 43 District PECTAAs, 143 Tehsil PECTAAs and ADUs for teacher education and training.

A meeting on the British Council’s ILMpact programme was held at PECTAA to discuss key priorities for strengthening education in Punjab. Discussions focused on instructional leadership, child safeguarding, pedagogy, remedial learning, and future training initiatives for teachers and school leaders.

PECTAA extended its support to the programme and reaffirmed its commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at improving learning outcomes across the province.

CEO PECTAA visited London Metropolitan University and held a fruitful meeting with Ms. Kelly Cooper, Dean of Social Sciences and Professions, and Professor Sean Flynn to discuss matters relating to teacher certification and professional development.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on contemporary approaches to teacher certification, professional standards, and potential areas of academic collaboration aimed at strengthening teacher quality in Punjab. Both sides discussed the importance of internationally aligned certification frameworks and institutional partnerships for capacity building in the education sector.

CEO PECTAA visited the University of Warwick, England and held a productive meeting with the Director of Education to explore avenues of mutual collaboration in the field of teacher licensing and certification.

The discussion focused on international best practices in teacher professional standards, certification frameworks, and opportunities for knowledge exchange to strengthen teacher quality in Punjab. A delegation including the CEO PECTAA visited the University of Oxford for a roundtable discussion on the challenges of education policy. Experts from Oxford University’s Department of Education shared their perspectives on key issues shaping education systems globally, including multilingual teaching and the challenges students face in pursuing further studies.

The discussion provided an excellent opportunity for exchange of ideas, learning from international experiences and exploring solutions that can help strengthen education policy and practice.

On Friday, 15th May, the School of Education (SOE), LUMS graciously hosted PECTAA's Promotion Linked Training Officers for rigorous sessions on Assessment and Examination , a significant initiative aimed at strengthening assessment and instructional practices within Punjab’s public education system.

The session was led by Dr. Irfan Muzaffar, Associate Professor of Practice at SOE, LUMS, who delivered an engaging and thought-provoking session on “Introduction to Assessments and Competency-Based Assessments.” The discussion highlighted contemporary assessment approaches that align student learning outcomes with practical competencies and real-world application.

Further enriching the session, Dr. Farah Nadeem shared valuable insights on Capacity-Based Assessment, emphasizing the urgent need to move beyond rote learning toward evaluating students’ conceptual understanding, critical thinking, practical skills, and application-based learning.

The interactive session fostered meaningful dialogue, active participation, and reflective discussions among officers, reaffirming a collective commitment to implementing competency-focused assessment practices across Punjab’s public schools.
