Punjab Economic Research Institute-PERI, Planning & Development Board Punjab Economic Research Institute (PERI) is the oldest economic research institute in the country, established in 1919. PERI is a statutory body.

PERI is an Oldest Economic Research Institution in the Country. Established as Punjab Board of Economic Inquiry in 1919. Reorganized and renamed as Economic Research Institute (ERI) in 1977. Renamed as Punjab Economic Research Institute (PERI) in 1980. The Institute is managed by its Board. The Institute is funded through a grant from the Punjab Government. Main Functions are:
To conduct research

on important socio-economic issues as may be desired or authorized by the Government. To compile and publish results of such research. To advise and make recommendations to Government, as and when required with regard to various economic policies.To provide information and advice regarding research techniques and methodology in economics and related social disciplines. To provide facilities for training in socio-economic research and demographic analysis to such persons as Government may direct. To extend cooperation to national and international organizations in the fields of economic research and training. To arrange / promote seminars / conferences on various socio-economic problems.

CIVIL SERVICES ACADEMY PROBATIONARY OFFICERS VISIT PUNJAB ECONOMIC RESEARCH INSTITUTE (PERI)

The Punjab Economic Research Institute (PERI) had the privilege of hosting four Probationary Officers from the Civil Services Academy, currently attached to the Planning & Development Board, Government of Punjab, as part of their institutional learning programme.

The officers were received by the Director, PERI, accompanied by the Chief of Research and Research Economist. During the visit, the Director presented an overview of PERI's vision, mandate, key research programmes, and its role in providing evidence-based policy recommendations to the Government of Punjab. The participants also discussed the Institute's research methodology, publications, and ongoing initiatives aimed at supporting informed public policy and sustainable socio-economic development.

The session concluded with an engaging discussion, allowing the visiting officers to exchange ideas and gain a deeper understanding of PERI's contribution to the province's development planning. The officers appreciated the informative interaction and expressed their gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the PERI team.

On 07-05-2026, Punjab Economic Research Institute (PERI), Planning & Development Board, Government of the Punjab, conducted an interactive session with students and faculty members of University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore. The session was led by Dr. Aamer Shaheen Ranjha, Director PERI, while Dr. Muhammad Shahzad Sardar, Research Economist, delivered a detailed presentation highlighting PERI’s role in evidence-based policy research, socio-economic development, and planning support for the Government of Punjab. Day 1 of the Three-Day Training Workshop on “Impact Assessment: Quantitative Techniques”, organized by the Punjab Economic Research Institute (PERI) in collaboration with UNICEF, began today (10–12 December 2025).

Participants from various government departments, academia, and policy institutions engaged in highly interactive and practical sessions covering:

📌 Statistical Tests
📌 Hands-on Excel Practice

The programme was formally inaugurated by Dr. Muhammad Avais Tahir, Chief of Research / (SRE), who delivered insightful opening remarks emphasizing the significance of evidence-based policymaking and strengthening analytical capacities.

PERI, in collaboration with UNICEF Punjab, successfully conducted the Panel Discussion on the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) & Child MPI today at Avari Lahore.

The session featured insightful presentations and expert reflections from our distinguished panelists:
Prof. Dr. Abid Aman Burki, Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi, Dr. Vaqar Ahmed, Dr. Tanveer Ahmed Naveed, and Ms. Ruhma Bint-e-Shahzad.

The discussion was expertly moderated by:
