🧬 What Happens If Both Parents Are Thalassemia Carriers?

If both parents are carriers of the same relevant Thalassemia gene, each pregnancy generally has:

🔴 25% chance: The child may have Thalassemia
🟡 50% chance: The child may be a Thalassemia carrier
🟢 25% chance: The child may be neither affected nor a carrier

These chances apply to each pregnancy independently.

❤️ This is why knowing your carrier status is important.

Pre-marital Thalassemia screening and genetic counseling can help couples understand their options and make informed decisions.

⚠️ Important: The 25%-50%-25% pattern applies when both parents carry the same relevant recessive Thalassemia condition. Individual circumstances can vary.

Looking healthy does not necessarily mean you are not a thalassaemia carrier.
