WHO IS THE “ONLY TRUE GOD”? 🤔

The pastor says:

«“The Son is not the Father.
The Holy Spirit is not the Father.”»

Fair enough. Trinitarian theology distinguishes the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as different persons.

But then Jesus makes a striking statement in John 17:3:

«“That they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”»

Notice the distinction in Jesus’ own prayer: “the only true God” — referring to the Father — and “Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

So here is the question:

If the Father is the only true God, how should we understand the claim that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are also God?

A Christian may have a theological explanation based on the doctrine of the Trinity. That is a legitimate discussion. But the question remains: Does John 17:3 itself clearly teach that Jesus is the same “only true God” whom he identifies as the Father?

Let’s discuss the text honestly—not with anger, not with insults, but with Scripture.

Read the verse. Then ask the question. 📖

JESUS IS FULLY MAN AND FULLY GOD.

That is the standard Christian formulation. But it immediately raises a difficult question:

If Jesus is fully human, then humanity is created.
If Jesus is fully God, then God is uncreated and eternal.

So what exactly does “fully man and fully God” mean?

Does it mean Jesus possesses two complete natures—one created and one uncreated? If so, how are these two fundamentally different categories united in one person?

And if Jesus is truly God, how should we understand passages where Jesus prays to God, calls the Father “my God,” says the Father is greater than him, and distinguishes himself from the Father?

These are not questions that should be dismissed with “It’s a mystery.”

A mystery may explain why something is difficult to understand—but it does not automatically establish that the doctrine is true.

The real question is simple: Did Jesus himself clearly teach that he is both fully God and fully man?

Let the discussion begin. 👇

THREE CHICKENS… BUT HOW MANY GODS? 🤔

The child looked at the poster and asked the pastor a simple question:

“Pastor, how many chickens do you see?”

The answer was obvious: three.

Then the child pointed to the second picture:

“And how many gods do you see?”

The poster shows the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost—three distinct figures used to represent the Christian Trinity.

Christians explain the Trinity as one God in three persons, not three separate gods. But that explanation raises an important question:

Did Jesus himself teach the Trinity in those exact terms?

Jesus said:

> “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” — John 17:3

And he said:

> “The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” — Mark 12:29

So the real question is not simply “What does the Trinity mean?”

The deeper question is:

What did Jesus actually teach about God—and should our understanding of God begin with his own words?

Read the texts. Ask questions. Let Scripture speak.

Dear pastor
Which Jesus Are We Supposed to Believe In?

Look closely at the image. Jesus is being imagined with different faces, ethnicities, hairstyles, and cultural appearances—Middle Eastern, African, European, Asian, and others.

But there is a deeper question behind the picture:

If Jesus is the same historical person, why have so many cultures pictured him so differently?

The important issue is not whether Jesus had European, African, or Asian features. Historically, Jesus was a Jewish man from first-century Roman Judea, so modern artistic portraits should not automatically be treated as photographs of what he actually looked like.

But an even more important question is:

Beyond appearance, which Jesus are we supposed to believe in?

The Jesus who prayed to God?

> “Not my will, but yours be done.” — Luke 22:42

The Jesus who said:

> “The Father is greater than I.” — John 14:28

The Jesus who called the Father “the only true God” and described himself as the one sent by God?

> “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” — John 17:3

Or the theological Jesus developed through later Christian interpretation?

This is not an argument about skin colour. It is a question about identity, authority, and evidence.

Don't ask only, “What does my church say about Jesus?”

Ask:

“What did Jesus himself say about who he was, who God is, and whom we should worship?”

That is where the real discussion begins.
