458 rupees per litre.
This is not just the price of petrol, this is the price of your life.
Let me break this down so no one can argue:
May 2024: Rs. 273/litre
April 2026: Rs. 458/litre
That's a 68% increase in less than 2 years.
Now ask yourself, did your salary go up 68%?
Did your business income go up 68%?
Did the rent you charge your tenant go up 68%?
No. Only your suffering did.
Here's what Rs. 458/litre actually means for YOUR life:
- Your daily commute
If you use 3 litres a day to get to work, you were paying Rs. 819 in 2024. Today you're paying Rs. 1,374. That's Rs. 16,500 extra per month, just to go to work and come back home.
- Rickshaw & Chingchi uncle
He doesn't eat the extra cost. YOU do. Every fare just got more expensive. Your kids going to school, your wife going to the market, it all costs more now.
- Your grocery bill
Every vegetable, every packet of flour, every bottle of cooking oil reaches the market on a truck. Diesel just jumped to Rs. 520/litre. The truck driver doesn't absorb that. The shopkeeper doesn't absorb that. You absorb that. Expect grocery prices to rise 15–25% in the coming weeks.
- Small business owners
Running a generator? A delivery bike? A small production unit? You just got taxed without a vote, without a notice, without a hearing.
- The daily wage worker
He earns Rs. 800–1,200 a day. His commute now eats Rs. 200–300 of that. He works for someone else's economy while feeding scraps to his own family.
Now let's talk about the international market excuse:
The government will tell you: "International oil prices went up."
Fine. Let's check.
International crude in May 2024: ~$97/barrel
International crude in April 2026: ~$109/barrel
That's roughly a 12% increase globally.
But YOUR price went up 68%.
So where did the other 56% go?
→ Petroleum Levy, a direct government tax on every litre you pump
→ GST on fuel, you're taxed on a tax
→ Rupee devaluation, your currency was deliberately weakened
→ IMF conditions, your government agreed to remove fuel subsidies to get loans, then handed YOU the bill
They borrowed money in your name. And now they're charging you the interest at the petrol pump.
The real question nobody is asking:
Pakistan has refineries.
Pakistan collects billions in petroleum levy every month.
Where does that money go?
Not to roads. Not to schools. Not to hospitals.
It goes to debt servicing, paying interest on loans taken by governments you didn't elect or that failed you completely.
You are a citizen paying for the mistakes of the powerful.
What happens next if we stay silent?
Diesel is now Rs. 520/litre.
Farmers use diesel for tube wells and tractors.
Your roti, your most basic right is about to get more expensive.
This is not inflation.
This is organized transfer of wealth from your pocket to the state's books.
