Day 5 — Summer Research Week 2026 (17-21 August 2026)

The fifth and final day of Summer Research Week 2026 brought together practical research skills, programming, research ethics, and a memorable closing ceremony.

The day began with an introduction to LaTeX for professional scientific writing and document preparation by Dr. Muhammad Usman. Participants were then introduced to Python programming by Mr. Nabi Bux, highlighting the growing importance of programming and computational skills in modern research. A dedicated session on Research Ethics was conducted by Dr. Saira Kazmi, covering important aspects of ethical research, including HEC policies, research integrity, plagiarism, and responsible research practices.

The day concluded with the certificate distribution ceremony, recognizing the participation and commitment of the researchers throughout the week. Participants expressed appreciation to PASTIC for organizing such a wonderful and valuable research-focused event.

The Chief Guest, Director General PASTIC, Prof. Dr. M. Akram Shaikh, addressed the participants and emphasized the growing importance of scientific and research tools in the current era. He highlighted the range of services offered by PASTIC and reaffirmed that PASTIC's research and information services are available to support researchers and the wider scientific community. He also expressed gratitude to the speakers, organizing members, participants, and everyone who contributed to making Summer Research Week 2026 a successful and enriching experience.

Day 4 | Summer Research Week 2026 (17-21 August 2026)

The fourth day of Summer Research Week 2026 at PASTIC focused on Qualitative Research and Thematic Analysis, introducing participants to practical approaches for analysing and interpreting qualitative data.

The session was conducted by Ms. Rabia Zafar, Bahria University, who introduced participants to the Braun and Clarke six-step framework for thematic analysis. The session provided an overview of how researchers can systematically identify, organise, analyse, and interpret themes emerging from qualitative data.

Participants were also introduced to the MAXQDA environment, including their interfaces and key features. Through practical demonstrations, they learned how to create a research project, import qualitative data, and organise their materials for analysis.

The hands-on session further covered creating and organising codes, using visual tools and maps to explore relationships within qualitative data, and exporting coded data and analytical reports. These activities helped participants understand how qualitative research software can support a more systematic and transparent research process.

Overall, Day 4 provided participants with practical exposure to qualitative data analysis, thematic coding, visual exploration, and research reporting, strengthening their ability to conduct and document qualitative research effectively.

Day 3 | Summer Research Week 2026 (17-21 August 2026)

The third day of Summer Research Week 2026 at PASTIC focused on Data Analysis with SPSS, and an essential aspect of academic research: reference management and scholarly organisation.

In the first session, topics including 1-Sample, Paired Sample, and Independent t-Tests were included. Participants also exercised the one-way ANOVA test with Post-Hoc Analysis.

Second session session provided participants with practical exposure to Zotero, a widely used reference management tool for organising research literature and streamlining the academic writing process.

This session, conducted by Dr. Maryam Ibrar, began with an introduction to Zotero, including the creation and organisation of personal research libraries. Participants learned how to import, manage, and organise references efficiently, helping them build a structured collection of research literature for their ongoing and future research work.

The session also covered citations and bibliography generation using Zotero, demonstrating how reference management tools can simplify citation practices and reduce the effort involved in preparing bibliographies. Following the lunch and prayer break, participants explored collaboration and group libraries, learning how Zotero can support researchers in sharing references and working collaboratively on research projects.

Overall, Day 3 provided participants with practical skills for data analysis with SPSS, organising scholarly resources, managing references, improving academic writing workflows, and collaborating in research environments.

2026 Summer Research Week (17-21 August 2026) — Day 2

The second day of the 2026 Summer Research Week at PASTIC National Centre, Islamabad, began with a recap of the concepts and techniques covered on the first day.

The participants were then introduced to the data analysis pipeline, covering the key stages involved in preparing and analysing research data. Practical activities focused on creating datasets, designing variables, and entering and managing data in SPSS.

The session further covered important data preprocessing techniques, including the identification and handling of missing values, data transformations, computation of new variables, and recoding of variables. Participants also explored descriptive statistics, including frequency distributions and cross-tabulations, to understand and summarize their datasets.

The latter part of the day introduced participants to inferential statistics, providing an overview of how statistical techniques can be used to draw conclusions and make inferences from research data.

With a combination of demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on exercises, Day 2 concluded with participants gaining practical experience in moving from raw research data towards meaningful statistical analysis.

The 2026 Summer Research Week (17–21 August 2026) commenced today at the PASTIC National Centre, Islamabad. The first day featured sessions on Introduction to Research Methods, Data Collection Strategies, and Introduction to Data Analytics with SPSS.

The five-day activity is designed to provide students and researchers with practical exposure to the tools, techniques, and methodologies involved throughout the academic research cycle, from research planning and data collection to data analysis and interpretation.

A total of 40 participants from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) are participating in the Summer Research Week.

The activity is an initiative of PASTIC National Centre, Islamabad, aimed at strengthening research capacity and equipping emerging researchers with practical skills to conduct systematic, data-driven, and evidence-based research.
