The Shariah Academy was initially founded as an Institute of Training in Shari’ah and Legal Profession in 1981 to fulfill the task of training of those associated with legal profession in various capacities. However, the Institute was elevated to the status of an Academy to become a constituent unit of the International Islamic University in 1985. The following are key objectives of the Academy:

To arrange pre-service and in-service training courses in Islamic law;
To develop methodologies for training and research in Islamic law and allied disciplines;
To launch and conduct correspondence courses in Islamic law facilitating an outreach through distance education system at both elementary and advanced levels;
To publish books, monographs, reports and journals on Islamic law;
To hold conferences, seminars, symposia and workshops on different areas in Islamic law; and
To perform such other functions as may be necessary for the realization of its objectives

اسلام میں نجی زندگی(پرائیویسی) کا تحفظ: اخلاقی بنیادیں، قانونی حقوق اور معاصر چیلنجز
شریعہ اکیڈمی، بین الاقوامی اسلامی یونیورسٹی اسلام آباد، ہائر ایجوکیشن کمیشن (HEC) پاکستان کے تعاون سے " اسلام میں نجی زندگی(پرائیویسی) کا تحفظ: اخلاقی بنیادیں، قانونی حقوق اور معاصر چیلنجز" کے عنوان سے ایک بین الاقوامی کانفرنس منعقد کر رہی ہے، جو 22 - 23 ستمبر 2026ء علامہ اقبال آڈیٹوریم، فیصل مسجد کیمپس، اسلام آباد میں منعقد ہوگی۔
اس کانفرنس کا مقصد علما، فقہا، جج صاحبان، وکلا، قانون دانوں، پالیسی سازوں اور محققین کو ایک مشترکہ علمی فورم فراہم کرنا ہے تاکہ اسلام میں پرائیویسی سے متعلق اصولوں کا معاصر تناظر میں جائزہ لے سکیں گے۔ کانفرنس کا مقصد فقہی لٹریچر اور عصر حاضر کے سماجی، قانونی اور تکنیکی حقائق کے مابین ایک بامعنی ربط پیدا کرنا ہے؛ تاکہ نجی زندگی کے تحفظ کے حوالے سے ایک جامع اسلامی نقطۂ نظر سامنے لایا جا سکے۔

المؤتمر الدولي: "الخصوصية في الإسلام: الأسس الأخلاقية، والحقوق القانونية، والتحديات المعاصرة"

يسرّ أكاديمية الشريعة بالجامعة الإسلامية العالمية بإسلام آباد، بالتعاون مع هيئة التعليم العالي في باكستان (HEC)، أن تعلن عن انعقاد المؤتمر الدولي: "الخصوصية في الإسلام: الأسس الأخلاقية، والحقوق القانونية، والتحديات المعاصرة" وذلك في يومي 22–23 سبتمبر 2026م في قاعة العلامة إقبال، حرم مسجد الملک فيصل ، إسلام آباد.
يهدف المؤتمر إلى جمع العلماء والفقهاء والقضاة والمحامين وصُنّاع السياسات والباحثين؛ لبحث الأبعاد الأخلاقية والقانونية والمعاصرة للخصوصية من المنظور الإسلامي، واستكشاف سبل التفاعل مع الأطر القانونية الحديثة والتحديات التقنية االمتسارعة.

International Conference on Privacy in Islam: Ethical Foundations, Legal Rights, and Modern Challenges

The Shari‘ah Academy, International Islamic University Islamabad, in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, is pleased to announce an International Conference on “Privacy in Islam: Ethical Foundations, Legal Rights, and Modern Challenges”, scheduled to be held on 22–23 September 2026 at the Allama Iqbal Auditorium, Faisal Masjid Campus, Islamabad.
The conference aims to bring together scholars, jurists, judges, lawyers, policymakers, and researchers to critically examine the ethical, legal, and contemporary dimensions of privacy from an Islamic perspective, while engaging with modern legal frameworks and emerging technological challenges.

Law Orientation Curse for Muftis and ‘Ulama Concludes at Shari‘ah Academy
The Shari‘ah Academy, International Islamic University Islamabad successfully concluded Law Orientation Course for Muftis and ‘Ulama, held from 13 to 21 May 2026.
Around forty religious scholars from different parts of the country participated in the programme. The course aimed at enhancing the participants’ understanding of Pakistan’s legal and judicial system and familiarizing them with the efforts made for the Islamization of laws in Pakistan.
During the course, the participants attended sessions delivered by eminent scholars, judges, and senior lawyers. They were introduced to important aspects of the constitutional, legal, and judicial framework of the country and engaged in interactive discussions on contemporary legal issues. The programme also provided the participants with an opportunity to visit the Council of Islamic Ideology and learn about its constitutional role and contributions toward the Islamization of laws.
Addressing the concluding session, Dr. Engr. Nadeem Ahmed Sheikh, Vice President International Islamic University, Islamabad highlighted the importance of such forums in providing religious scholars an opportunity to learn directly from legal practitioners, judges, and experts, thereby strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between the religious and legal communities.
The participants expressed their satisfaction over the successful conduct of the course and thanked the Shari‘ah Academy for providing them with a valuable opportunity to better understand the legal and judicial system of Pakistan.
At the end of the ceremony, certificates were distributed among the participants.

Shari‘ah Academy Inaugurates Law Orientation Course for ‘Ulama and Muftis
A ten-day Law Orientation Course for ‘Ulama and Muftis commenced on 13 May 2026 at the Shari‘ah Academy, International Islamic University, Islamabad. Around forty religious scholars belonging to different schools of thought from across the country are participating in the programme.
Addressing the inaugural session, Professor Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General Shariah Academy welcomed the participants and highlighted the aims and objectives of the course. He stated that the programme has been designed to familiarize religious scholars with Pakistan’s constitutional and legal system, judicial structure, and contemporary legal issues, enabling them to better understand modern legal requirements and challenges.
Sahibzada Qamar ul Haq, President Jamia Muhammadi Sharif also addressed the participants and emphasized the importance of such training programmes for religious scholars. He remarked that awareness of the country’s laws and judicial system is essential for scholars to play a more effective and constructive role in society.
During the course, participants will be introduced to Pakistan’s constitutional and legal framework, prevailing criminal and civil laws, judicial system, and basic legal procedures. In addition, study visits to important constitutional institutions, including the Federal Shariat Court and the Council of Islamic Ideology, have also been arranged to provide participants with practical insight into the functioning and services of these institutions.
The Shari‘ah Academy is also providing boarding and lodging facilities to participants coming from outside the city during the ten-day course. The programme is being organized in collaboration with Jamia Muhammadi Sharif.

The Shariʻah Academy, in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red
Cross (ICRC), successfully organized a two-day Certificate Course on Islam and
International Humanitarian Law for lawyers and university students on 5–6 May 2026 at
the Shariʻah Academy, International Islamic University Islamabad.
The course aimed at enhancing understanding of the principles of International
Humanitarian Law (IHL) in the light of Islamic teachings and contemporary legal
discourse. The programme brought together lawyers, university students, and academics.
The inaugural session commenced with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, followed by
opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General, Shariʻah Academy.
Dr. Ziaullah Rahmani introduced the role and humanitarian mission of the International
Committee of the Red Cross.
During the two-day course, various sessions were conducted on important themes related
to International Humanitarian Law and Islamic law of armed conflict. Dr. Muhammad
Rafeeq Shinwari delivered lectures on the introduction to International Humanitarian
Law and conducted case study discussions. Hafiz Ahmad Waqas spoke on the Islamic
law of armed conflict and also participated in the case study sessions. Usman Khan
delivered a lecture on the protection of persons and objects during armed conflict from
the perspective of IHL, while Taj Muhammad discussed the protection of cultural
property during armed conflict.
The participants actively engaged in discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and case
studies, and appreciated the academic and practical significance of the course.
In the concluding session, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram thanked the participants and
resource persons for their active participation and valuable contributions. He stated that
such programmes are organized to bridge the gap between Islamic law and contemporary
legal discourse and reaffirmed that the Academy would continue to organize similar
academic programmes in the future. At the end of the programme, certificates were
distributed among the participants.
