Strengthening Health Data & Statistics
A significant milestone was achieved with the signing of an MoU between Bureau of Statistics (PBS) and the of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination ( &C).

The MoU was signed by Ms. Rabia Awan, DDG (PSLM/PCS), PBS, and Dr. Zia Ullah Khan Dawar, Project Director of the Minister’s National Program for the of Hepatitis in Pakistan. Dr. Naeem uz Zafar, Chief Statisticain, PBS also graced the event.

This collaboration will further strengthen coordination, data sharing, and evidence-based planning in the health sector, contributing to improved statistical systems and informed policymaking in Pakistan.

پاکستان ادارہ شماریات میں یومِ آزادی کی 79ویں سالگرہ پر پرچم کشائی کی تقریب

اسلام آباد، 14 اگست 2026ء: پاکستان ادارہ شماریات (PBS) کے ہیڈکوارٹرز، اسلام آباد میں پاکستان کا 79واں یومِ آزادی ملی جوش و جذبے کے ساتھ منایا گیا۔ اس موقع پر پرچم کشائی کی پروقار تقریب منعقد ہوئی، جس میں پاکستان کا قومی پرچم ڈاکٹر نعیم اُز ظفر (ستارۂ امتیاز)، چیف شماریات دان، PBS نے سربلند کیا۔ تقریب میں بیورو کے اعلیٰ افسران، افسران و اہلکاروں اور ان کے اہلِ خانہ نے شرکت کی۔

تقریب میں مسٹر منور علی گھانگھرو، ڈائریکٹر جنرل (ایڈمن)، محترمہ رابعہ اعوان، ڈپٹی ڈائریکٹر جنرل، مسٹر شوکت علی خان، ڈپٹی ڈائریکٹر جنرل، مسٹر نوید اقبال، جے اے سی سی، محترمہ رضوانہ صدیقی، ڈائریکٹر، مسٹر رفیق تالپور، ڈائریکٹر، مسٹر قاضی سعید الحسن، ڈائریکٹر (ایڈمن) سمیت ہیڈکوارٹرز اسلام آباد کے دیگر اعلیٰ افسران اور اہلکار بھی موجود تھے۔

پرچم کشائی کی تقریب نے حب الوطنی، اتحاد اور قومی فخر کے جذبے کی بھرپور عکاسی کی۔ افسران و اہلکاروں کی شرکت نے اس عزم کا اظہار کیا کہ پاکستان ادارہ شماریات اپنے قومی فرائض کو لگن، پیشہ ورانہ مہارت، دیانت داری اور قومی ذمہ داری کے مضبوط احساس کے ساتھ جاری رکھے گا۔

تقریب میں ادارہ کے افسران و اہلکاروں کے بچوں کی شرکت نے جشنِ آزادی کو مزید یادگار بنا دیا۔ بچوں نے بھرپور جوش و جذبے اور حب الوطنی کا مظاہرہ کیا، جس سے تقریب میں خوشی اور رونق کا سماں پیدا ہوا۔ ان کی شرکت نوجوان نسل میں قومی یکجہتی، خدمتِ وطن اور پاکستان سے محبت کے جذبات اجاگر کرنے کا باعث بنی۔

اس موقع پر شرکاء نے تحریکِ پاکستان کے بانیان اور ان تمام افراد کی عظیم قربانیوں کو خراجِ عقیدت پیش کیا جنہوں نے پاکستان کے قیام اور اس کی ترقی میں اپنا کردار ادا کیا۔ تقریب کے اختتام پر اس عزم کا اعادہ کیا گیا کہ پاکستان بیورو آف شماریات ملک کی ترقی میں اپنا کردار ادا کرتے ہوئے قابلِ اعتماد، بروقت اور مستند سرکاری اعداد و شمار کی تیاری اور فراہمی کے ذریعے قومی خدمت کا سلسلہ جاری رکھے گا۔

📊 Meeting on SDG Indicators Reporting & Data Dashboard Held at PBS

A meeting between representatives of the of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics ( ) was held to discuss progress on SDGs indicators reporting and the development of an integrated dashboard with (AI) and Machine Learning for SDGs data.

The meeting focused on clarifications and validation of data for the 62 SDG indicators supported by PBS, along with discussions on data definitions, sources, reporting methodologies and the conceptual and definitional aspects of SDGs indicators.

PBS reaffirmed its commitment to providing the required indicators and supporting data in the future to strengthen evidence-based SDGs monitoring and reporting. The meeting also discussed the development of APIs to facilitate seamless data integration and automated updating of the SDGs integrated dashboard with (AI) and Machine Learning. This collaboration reflects the commitment of both institutions to promote reliable, timely and accessible official statistics for effective monitoring of Pakistan’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

📢 Consultative Meeting on PDHS 2026 Held at PBS

A consultative meeting on the Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey (PDHS) 2026 was held at the National Census Coordination Centre (N3C), Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), and was chaired by Chief Statistician Dr. Naeem Uz Zafar (SI).

The meeting was attended by representatives from UNRCO, UNFPA, UNDP, and UNICEF, including Ms. Afke Bootsman (Head of RCO, UNRCO), Mr. Muqaddar Shah (Programme Analyst, UNFPA), Mr. Umer Malik (Policy Analyst, UNDP), Mr. Faateh ud Din (Data & Analytics Specialist, UNICEF), along with other technical experts.

PBS was represented by Ms. Rabia Awan (DDG PSLM/PCS), Mr. M. Yasir Ishfaq (Director DP), Dr. Naveed Iqbal (JACC/Director), Ms. Rumana Sadaf (CSO-SD-I), Ms. Sana Habib (CSO), Ms. Ayesha Sajid (Instructor, PDHS), and Ms. Hafsa Batool (ACC, PDHS).

Participants discussed the PDHS 2026 questionnaire, SDG indicator mapping, survey methodology, Early Childhood Development (ECD) indicators, CAPI-based data collection, and implementation planning. They also provided valuable technical suggestions to further strengthen the survey design and ensure the production of high-quality, reliable data.

The development partners appreciated PBS's consultative approach and technical efforts in developing a nationally owned and internationally comparable PDHS 2026, and reaffirmed their continued technical cooperation and support throughout the survey process.

*External Trade Section Conducts Training Session on Advanced Excel Applications for Internees*

The External Trade Section of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) conducted a comprehensive training session on "Advanced Excel Applications for External Trade Statistics" for its internees. The session aimed to enhance the participants' understanding of trade statistics compilation and strengthen their practical data analysis skills using advanced Microsoft Excel tools.
The session commenced with opening remarks from Mr. Rizwan Bashir, Director of the External Trade Section, who highlighted the importance of data science and analytics in modern statistical analysis. Following the opening, the training was delivered by Ms. Sadaf Wasim, Statistical Officer, and Mr. Muhammad Ali, Data Processing Officer, who provided an overview of the role of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics in compiling external trade statistics and explained the complete workflow of trade data processing.
The session covered key topics including the basis of trade valuation, data sources, trade data management, processing of import and export declarations, quality checks, preparation of statistical reports, and dissemination of trade statistics. Participants were also introduced to practical applications of Advanced Excel.
A hands-on practical exercise enabled the internees to apply the concepts learned during the session, providing them with valuable experience in handling datasets and preparing statistical summaries relevant to external trade statistics.

The key findings of the Gilgit-Baltistan Labour Force Survey (LFS) 2024-25 were presented by Mr. Shaukat Ali Khan, Deputy Director General (LFS), Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) at the Planning & Development Department, Gilgit-Baltistan.
The meeting was chaired by the Chief Economist and attended by representatives from the Foreign Aid, Commerce, Labour Department, SDG Unit, and other stakeholder organizations.
During the session, Mr. Shaukat Ali Khan delivered a comprehensive presentation covering the survey methodology, sample design, key labour force concepts, major findings, and the overall structure of the GB LFS 2024-25 report. The presentation highlighted the latest labour market indicators and their importance for evidence-based policymaking and development planning in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Chair appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics in producing this landmark report and commended the high quality, professionalism, and informative nature of the presentation. The participants acknowledged the significance of the survey as a valuable source of reliable labour market statistics to support planning, policy formulation and monitoring of development goals in Gilgit-Baltistan.
