A Provincial Dissemination Seminar on the Political Economy Analysis (PEA) of Family Planning and District Performance Ranking was held on 31st December 2025 in Abbottabad under the chairpersonship of Ms. Ayesha Ihsan, Director General, Population Welfare Department (PWD), Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The event was organized under the UNFPA Annual Work Plan 2025 in collaboration with the Population Welfare Department, KP.
The seminar brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including District Population Welfare Officers (DPWOs), Principals of Regional Training Institutes (RTIs), senior officers from the Directorate General Population Welfare, representatives from the District Health Office (DHO), and officials from the Social Welfare and Youth Departments of Abbottabad. The participation of multi-sectoral stakeholders reflected the cross-cutting nature of population and reproductive health challenges in the province.
In her opening remarks, the Director General warmly welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of inter-sectoral coordination, evidence-based planning, and institutional ownership in advancing the agenda of FP/RH.
The technical sessions featured presentations by Dr. Ghulam Farid and Mr. Khan Muhammad from UNFPA.
Dr. Ghulam Farid presented the key findings of the Political Economy Analysis of Family Planning in Pakistan, highlighting structural, institutional, and governance-related factors influencing family planning outcomes. He emphasized the importance of political commitment, resource prioritization, and accountability mechanisms in strengthening service delivery and achieving demographic dividends.
Mr. Khan Muhammad presented the District Ranking Analysis, which assessed district-level performance using a set of standardized indicators and analytical tools. The presentation provided comparative insights into service coverage, governance, and system responsiveness, offering evidence-based guidance for targeted interventions and informed decision-making at the provincial and district levels.
The participants actively took part in the workshop and engaged in an interactive question-and-answer session, seeking clarifications and sharing valuable feedback and field-level insights.
In her concluding remarks, Ms. Ayesha Ihsan underscored the critical role of policy makers, research institutions, and line departments in translating evidence into action. She reiterated the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s commitment to strengthening coordination mechanisms, enhancing institutional capacities, and advancing the family planning agenda in alignment with provincial and national development priorities.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks conveyed on behalf of Dr. Aneela Mahfooz Durrani, Secretary, Population Welfare Department, acknowledging the valuable contributions of all participants and partners toward advancing reproductive health outcomes in the province.
