It is located at 32°23'08.05" N 74°42'43.94" E with an altitude of 165 metres (544 feet).[1] It is known as "the Graveyard of Tanks" because of the large number of tanks destroyed in the Battle of Chawinda during the 1965 Indian Pakistan war. It is linked to the cities of Sialkot and Narowal through rail and road connections. It is also linked through road to the towns of Zafarawal in the east and
Chobara and Kingra and Khana Wali in the north. It has two government boys high schools, one boys degree college, one girls college, a health centre, and a number of private education centres, two marriage halls.Bajwas, Ansaris , Mirzas, Sheikhs are big castes of Chawinda .In every institution and department like Pak Army , Navy , PIA, FIA , BOR , Judiciary , people of chawinda are serving . Students from chawinda are studying in top Universities like QAU, PU, IIUI, GCU , LUMS,BZU, and so many others . Chawinda is amongest the villages having highest literacy rate in the country . Chawinda has produced many big names for the country like Iftikhar Ahmad Sarohi (Admiral Rtd ) Shahid Anwar Bajwa (Justice Rtd. Sindh High Court) Akhtar Hussain Rizvi (Former MPA and Provincial Minister) Altaf Qadir Bajwa(Col Rtd.).For the last few years Chawinda is consistently producing atleast couple of people as CSP's , PCS officers, Judicial Officers and Army personnals every year which is significant thing as just being a Union Council. Presently people like Sheikh Ateeq (Bargadiar Pak Army )Ikhlaq Ahmad Qureshi (DD F.I.A) Waqar Ahmad (ASP) Ali Nasir Rizvi (SSP) Muneeb Zafar Bajwa (AD Board of Revenue) ,Usman Ahamd (AC Inland Revenue) are serving as officers in the country .
