As part of its continuing efforts to strengthen public awareness and broaden the reach of the Employees’ Compensation (EC) Program, the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC), led by Deputy Executive Director Atty. Evelyn Ramos and Commissioner Allan Montano, representative of the workers’ sector, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region IX headed by Regional Director Albert Gutib, conducted an onsite EC Program seminar on May 11 at Mega Global Corporation in Zamboanga City.
Demonstrating strong support for the Commission’s advocacy initiatives, Regional Director Gutib personally welcomed the ECC delegation upon their arrival at the Zamboanga International Airport and accompanied the team to the company’s office for the activity.
Representing Mega Global Corporation, Atty. Girlie Lactao-Real warmly received the ECC and DOLE representatives and expressed the company’s appreciation for the information session aimed at promoting workers’ welfare, protection, and awareness of their rights and benefits under the EC Program.
In his opening message, Commissioner Montano underscored the importance of the EC Program in providing protection and assistance to workers affected by work-related contingencies.
Director Gutib likewise thanked the management of Mega Global Corporation for hosting the activity and reaffirmed the commitment of DOLE and ECC to advancing programs that uphold the rights, health, safety, and well-being of workers.
Atty. Ramos also presented an overview of the ECC’s mandates and functions as a government institution tasked with extending compensation and assistance to workers who suffer work-related sickness, injury, disability, or death. This was followed by a comprehensive discussion from Cerna Ahmad Ayub, Information Officer of the ECC Regional Extension Unit IX, on compensable contingencies, EC benefits and services, and the procedures for filing EC claims.
The seminar served as a valuable platform for strengthening workers’ awareness of their rights and benefits under the EC Program, while further enhancing collaboration among ECC, DOLE, and the private sector in promoting workers’ protection and social security.
