Today, I presided over the Case Conference on the ADZU shooting incident with the SITG and concerned units, focusing on the progress of the investigation, the facts established, and the actions that must be taken next.

We are not simply reviewing reports—we are examining every development, validating information, pursuing leads, and directing the necessary actions to move the investigation toward its proper resolution.

For PRO9, there is no room for complacency. We will continue to work closely with the SITG, strengthen coordination, and act on every legitimate lead within the bounds of the law and due process.

The investigation continues. The work continues. Today, we take action to bring us closer to the truth.

From my perspective as Regional Director of PRO9, the visit of Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla Jr., SILG, and PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, PNP, to Zamboanga City yesterday was a clear demonstration of the national leadership’s commitment to ensuring that the investigation into the August 18 school shooting incident is pursued thoroughly, promptly, and in accordance with the law.

Their presence brought together national and local authorities in a concerted effort to establish the facts, closely monitor the progress of the investigation, strengthen coordination, and address concerns surrounding the safety and security of our schools.

For PRO9, this is more than simply supporting an investigation. We remain fully engaged in the process, working closely with our investigative teams, partner agencies, local authorities, and the community to ensure that all relevant information is properly acted upon, every necessary procedure is observed, and the case is handled with the urgency, diligence, and impartiality it demands.

Behind this effort are men and women who continue to perform their duties day and night, dedicating long hours to the careful work of establishing the facts and helping bring the investigation to its proper resolution. We remain committed to doing everything within our mandate while respecting due process and the integrity of the investigation.

The safety of our students, teachers, and communities remains a responsibility that we take seriously—one that requires action, accountability, and sustained coordination.

As the investigation moves forward, I continue to stay closely involved and connected with the teams handling the case.

Yesterday, I joined our personnel in listening to the live briefing of Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla, Jr., SILG, and PGen Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief PNP, as they provided guidance and direction relevant to the ongoing investigation.

This incident should not happen again. We will get to the bottom of what happened, determine the circumstances surrounding it, and make sure that every responsible lead is properly pursued.

On the Ground | Continuing the Investigation

I personally and repeatedly inspected the area where the shooting incident occurred to monitor the progress of the investigation and ensure that every relevant lead is being carefully pursued.

Every piece of information matters. We will continue to examine the facts, validate available evidence, and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

We will not stop at what is immediately visible. We will continue to look deeper, follow the evidence, and seek the truth through a thorough, objective, and evidence-based investigation.

Following the activation of the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) ADZU, I led the continuing efforts of the task group at the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) to ensure that the investigation and corresponding security measures remain properly coordinated and responsive.

Our focus remains clear: validate information, pursue relevant leads, coordinate with concerned authorities, and establish the facts through proper procedures.

We are also strengthening coordination with the school administration and concerned units to help maintain a safe and orderly environment for the students, faculty, and the entire school community.

At this point, we remain guided by facts, evidence, and due process. I call on everyone to remain calm and responsible, particularly in sharing information, and to rely only on verified details.

The work continues. We remain focused, coordinated, and committed to our responsibility to the community.

As a father and as the Regional Director of PRO9, the incident yesterday at the Ateneo de Zamboanga School is deeply concerning—not only because of what happened, but because it happened in a place where our children should feel protected.

My direction to our police personnel is straightforward: secure our schools, strengthen coordination, listen to the concerns of the school community, and act on what needs to be improved.

We will continue working with school administrators, local authorities, and our partner agencies to strengthen preparedness and ensure a coordinated response to threats involving our children.

At the same time, we will allow the investigation to determine the facts. We will not speculate. We will not point fingers. We will focus on what we can do now.

Because when children are involved, the measure of our response is not only how quickly we react to an incident—but how seriously we work to prevent the next one. Their safety is our responsibility.

A badge is more than authority. It is a responsibility.

This Monday, I reminded our PRO9 family that our duty goes beyond wearing the uniform. It is about earning trust, preventing harm, protecting our communities, and doing what is right—even when no one is watching.

Humanize the badge. Secure the Zamboanga Peninsula.
