The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has earmarked nearly โ‚ฑ4.4 billion in emergency loans for 166,789 active members and old-age and disability pensioners in nine areas in Luzon affected by recent typhoons and the southwest monsoon.

In Pampanga; Calumpit, Bulacan; and Mangaldan and Dagupan City, Pangasinan, a total of 65,737 members and pensioners working or residing in the affected areas may apply for the emergency loan until September 13, 2026.

In Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan, 1,964 members and pensioners may apply until September 18, while those in Hagonoy, Bulacan, and Masinloc, Zambales, may submit their applications until September 20.

Meanwhile, a total of 94,750 eligible members and pensioners in Cavite and Rodriguez, Rizal, may apply until November 12 and November 16, respectively.

Active GSIS members working or residing in the affected areas may apply for the emergency loan provided they have no due and demandable GSIS loan; are not on unpaid leave; have paid at least three months of premiums within the six months immediately preceding the application; have no pending administrative or criminal case; and have a monthly take-home pay of at least โ‚ฑ5,000 after deductions.

Old-age and disability pensioners residing in the affected areas may also apply, provided that their net monthly pension after loan amortization is at least 25% of their basic monthly pension.

Qualified members and pensioners with no existing emergency loan may borrow โ‚ฑ20,000, while those with an outstanding balance on a previous emergency loan may avail of up to โ‚ฑ40,000, subject to existing GSIS policies.

The GSIS Emergency Loan is payable in 36 equal monthly installments at 6% interest per annum. It is covered by loan redemption insurance, which deems the outstanding balance fully paid in the event of the borrowerโ€™s death, provided that loan payments are up to date.

Members and pensioners may conveniently apply through the GSIS Touch mobile app, with approved loan proceeds credited directly to their GSIS eCard or UMID card.

Coconut Palace Reopens to the Public, Celebrating Filipino Heritage, Culture, and Architectural Excellence

MANILA, Philippines, 26 August 2026 โ€” The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) proudly announces the reopening of the iconic Coconut Palace to the public on 25 August 2026, ushering in a renewed opportunity for Filipinos and international visitors to experience one of the country's most celebrated cultural and architectural landmarks.

Nestled within the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex in Pasay City, the Coconut Palace stands as a symbol of Filipino ingenuity, craftsmanship, and artistic excellence. Designed by National Artist for Architecture Francisco โ€œBobbyโ€ Maรฑosa, the landmark is renowned for its distinctive interpretation of traditional Filipino architecture and its extensive use of indigenous and locally sourced materials, particularly coconut-based elements that showcase the country's rich natural resources.

The reopening marks a significant milestone in the preservation and promotion of Philippine cultural heritage, making one of the nation's most recognizable landmarks more accessible to the public while reaffirming its role as a venue for cultural appreciation and national pride.

โ€œThe reopening of the Coconut Palace is more than the restoration of a historic landmark. It is an invitation for Filipinos and visitors alike to reconnect with our heritage, celebrate Filipino creativity, and appreciate the architectural and cultural legacy that continues to inspire generations,โ€ said GSIS President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo โ€˜Wickโ€™ Veloso.

Visitors will once again be able to explore the Palace's distinctive architectural features, meticulously crafted interiors, and unique cultural elements that reflect the richness and diversity of Filipino traditions. Beyond serving as a heritage destination, the Coconut Palace is envisioned as a dynamic venue for cultural programs, official functions, educational activities, tourism initiatives, and events that highlight Filipino identity, artistry, and innovation.

The reopening forms part of the government's continuing commitment to safeguarding the nation's cultural treasures while creating meaningful opportunities for public engagement with historically significant sites.

As it welcomes guests once more, the Coconut Palace remains a powerful testament to Filipino creativity, craftsmanship, and pride. Its enduring presence continues to reflect the country's cultural identity and the timeless vision of architecture rooted in Filipino traditions and values.

โ€œWe look forward to welcoming the public back to the Coconut Palace and inspiring a new generation to discover, appreciate, and take pride in this enduring symbol of Filipino heritage,โ€ Veloso added.

*About the Coconut Palace*
The Coconut Palace, formally known as Tahanang Pilipino, is a nationally recognized landmark celebrated for its distinctive Filipino architectural design and extensive use of coconut-based and other indigenous materials.

The project was commissioned in 1978 by then First Lady Imelda R. Marcos as a government guest house intended to showcase Filipino culture, craftsmanship, and the versatility of the coconut as a sustainable construction material. Designed by National Artist for Architecture Francisco โ€œBobbyโ€ Maรฑosa, the Palace was conceived as a symbol of Filipino ingenuity and hospitality, highlighting the country's rich architectural traditions and local resources. It was originally envisioned as a venue for hosting distinguished foreign dignitaries and international guests, including Pope John Paul II during his 1981 visit to the Philippines.

Renowned for its innovative use of coconut lumber, shells, roots, fibers, and other indigenous materials, the Coconut Palace stands as one of the most iconic examples of Filipino tropical architecture. The structure embodies Filipino creativity, craftsmanship, and sustainable design principles while promoting the use of locally sourced materials. Its cultural, historical, and architectural significance has made it one of the country's most notable heritage and tourism landmarks and an enduring showcase of Philippine artistry and identity.
