The City Government through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Department of Labor and Employment-9 (DOLE IX) on Tuesday, August 25, formally forged a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with two private companies to
expand technical training and internship opportunities for local jobseekers under the 2026 JobStart Philippines Program.
With Mayor Khymer Olaso as wtness, the signing ceremony was spearheaded by DOLE 9 Regional Director Albert Gutib, PESO Head Marinyd Tingcang, Vintazk Outsourcing Chief Executive Officer Jervil Formilleza-Omaga, and Mapa Coffee owner Denny Jane Tan Nacan.
Mayor Olaso expressed full support to the initiative, emphasizing the city's commitment to ensuring that Zamboangueños have access to employment and skills development opportunities.
“I’m always here to support the program. Rest assured, each Zamboangueño will not be left behind,” Olaso said in his message.
The JobStart Philippines program equips young jobseekers with technical instruction and life-skills training, followed by hands-on workplace experience through structured internships with private sector partners.

The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) successfully conducted the first batch of the Seminar-Orientation on Labor Laws for Industry Partners, with 30 PESO-accredited employers from Zamboanga City in attendance.

The seminar is part of PESO’s continuing efforts to strengthen employers’ understanding of labor laws, promote workplace compliance, and foster fair, productive, and harmonious employer-employee relationships.

Serving as the resource speaker, Atty. Alman-Najar L. Namla is a practicing lawyer and founder of Namla Law Office, with offices in Isabela City, Basilan and Zamboanga City - also a law professor at Ateneo de Zamboanga University and Western Mindanao State University. Atty. Namla is known for his legal literacy initiatives that make legal knowledge more accessible to Filipino communities.

Ms. Marynid R. Tingcang, Designated PESO Manager, emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships with industry employers and promoting awareness of labor laws in the workplace. Also present during the activity was Executive Assistant Rosendo "Junty" N. Castillo III , representing City Mayor Hon. Khymer Adan T. Olaso, M.M., reflecting the City Government’s continued support for PESO programs and initiatives.

The Public Employment Service Office (PESO), in partnership with the Sangguniang Kabataan Zamboanga City Federation, successfully conducted the PESO FAIR: Linggo ng Kabataan 2026 on August 14 and 15, 2026, held consecutively at Barangay Cabaluay-District II, and Barangay Ayala-District I.

The initiative aimed to bringing employment opportunities closer to residents and providing convenient access to available job openings within their respective districts.

The two-day PESO Fair generated 49 Hired-On-the-Spot (HOTS), with 18 job seekers from Barangay Cabaluay and 31 from Barangay Ayala . In addition, 66 job seekers were identified as near hires, 21 from Barangay Cabaluay and 45 from Barangay Ayala. These near hires will proceed to the next stages of the employers’ interview and recruitment process.

Mayor Khymer Adan T. Olaso, M.M., represented by Executive Assistant B**g Simbajon, reaffirmed the government’s full support for programs that promote youth development, while SKFZ President and Councilor CJ Dalipe delivered her support for employment for the youth. Also present during the event was Hon. Benjamin B. Guingona, who joined in supporting the initiative and objectives of the event.

To further support participants, the DICT provided access to the eGov platform and assisted job seekers in creating and printing their resumes. Meanwhile, the Ateneo LEAP Program conducted short online employability training sessions to help equip participants with essential workplace skills and enhance their readiness for employment.
