WE STRONGLY CONDEMN THE SHOOTING INCIDENT WITHIN SCHOOL PREMISES.

The Sangguniang Kabataan Federation mourns the devastating loss of two young lives in the recent school (Ateneo de Zamboanga university JHS) shooting. Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families and the entire student body during this incredibly difficult time.

We call for a swift, thorough, and impartial investigation and for appropriate action to be taken to ensure accountability and, more importantly, to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

While the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation has actively partnered with the Zamboanga City Police Office to initiate school preparedness and simulation exercises, this tragedy proves we must do more. We are urgently calling on all educational institutions, law enforcement agencies, and other government authorities to not only strengthen physical security but to drastically improve mental health support, conflict resolution, and early intervention systems for our youth.

The safety and best interest of our youth must remain a shared responsibility. As a community, we must also be responsible in sharing information, photos, and videos related to the incident. Let us avoid spreading unverified or sensitive content and rely only on verified sources to prevent further harm to the victims, their families, and the school community.

Our children deserve safe schools, responsible communities, and decisive action.

PUBLIC ADVISORY| Face-to-face classes at all levels - both public and private schools in the city are SUSPENDED on Monday, August 17, 2026, due to high heat index.

Based on the latest PAGASA bulletin, Zamboanga City’s heat index is forecast to reach 41 degrees Celsius on Monday, Aug. 17.

Please be guided.

PUBLIC ADVISORY| Face-to-face classes at all levels - both public and private schools in the city are SUSPENDED on Monday, August 17, 2026, due to high heat index.

Based on the latest PAGASA bulletin, Zamboanga City’s heat index is forecast to reach 41 degrees Celsius on Monday, Aug. 17.

Nonetheless, work in government and private agencies, as well as business operations, continue as usual.

The public is advised to take extra precautions during periods of high heat index to prevent heat-related illnesses like cramps, exhaustion, and stroke. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, limit outdoor exposure between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, wear light clothing, and use sun protection.

ALL ROADS LEAD TO WMSU GYM!

The Zamboanga City Youth Summit is happening at the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) Gym on August 16, 2026, with registration starting at 7:30 AM, event starts at 9:00AM.

Be part of this youth gathering as we cap off the Linggo ng Kabataan 2026 Celebration in Zamboanga City!

The Chairperson of the National Youth Commission, Usec. Jeff Ortega, will grace the event and join the Zamboangueño Jovenes in a fun-filled and meaningful youth gathering.

There will be series of presentations and competitions such as the LYDC Booth and Organization Exposition and the Conversa Jovenes: Debate Competition.

In the afternoon, City Councilor and SK National President CJ Dalipe will deliver the State of the Youth Address, followed by the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation to our partners who have supported the various activities conducted throughout the Linggo ng Kabataan celebration.

YOUTH CITY OFFICIALS IN ACTION | City Councilor and SK National President CJ Dalipe joins the Youth City Officials from various schools across Zamboanga City as they held their mock session at the Sangguniang Panlungsod earlier today.

Composed of student leaders from different schools, the Youth City Officials presented their proposed resolutions, shared their perspectives, and demonstrated their leadership, confidence, and understanding of public governance.

AT THE MOMENT | The SK Zamboanga City Federation, under the leadership of City Councilor and SK National President CJ Dalipe, in partnership with TESDA IX, rolls out a series of skills training programs at the TESDA Center as part of the Linggo ng Kabataan 2026 Celebration.

The training programs include Halal Awareness, Basic Customer Service, Bread Making, Mango Jam Making, and Basic Content Creation.
