The 54th Engineer (SARANGAY) Brigade, Philippine Army was activated effective 01 July 1991 as regular unit of PA in accordance with the General Order Nr. 513, it was formally signed on 15 August 1991 at PA Officers' Oclub, Fort Andres Bonifacio, Taguig, Metro Manila. In line of the National Defense directive of reducing brigade headquarters by retaining one (1) major brigade headquarters for major island regions. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, he expressed the desire to expedite the completion of priority government projects which were mostly in Mindanao, with this the Army was immediately allocated funds by the National Government to reactivate an engineer brigade specifically for this purpose, the 54EBde, PA was reactivated on 15th December 2016 in pursuant with the General Order Nr. 825 dated 30 December 2016. Demonstrating its continued commitment to strengthening partnerships and promoting the welfare of military personnel, officials of the AFP Finance Center Multi-Purpose Cooperative (AFPFC MPC) paid a courtesy call on BGEN DARWIN F HERNANDEZ PA, Commander of the 54th Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army, at the Brigade Headquarters on 07 August 2026.

The delegation was led by CAPT DANILO MEMBRERE, Chairman of the AFPFC MPC, together with LTC BENJIE ARCIAGA, General Manager of the cooperative. During the meeting, the AFPFC MPC officials presented the cooperative's mission, current programs, and future initiatives designed to provide accessible financial assistance, savings opportunities, and other member-centered services for soldiers and civilian human resources. The celebration commenced with a solemn and dignified program organized by the 9th Regional Community Defense Group, RESCOM, Philippine Army, bringing together Officers, Enlisted personnel and Civilian Human Resources of the 9RCDG, 547EBn, 901CDC and 1CMOBn in observance of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Month.

During program, messages was delivered emphasizing the significance of IHL in safeguarding human dignity during armed conflict, reaffirming the commitment of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and its partners to uphold the principles of humanity, distinction, proportionality, and military necessity, while fostering greater public awareness and adherence to humanitarian values and the rule of law.

The ceremony marked the turnover of responsibilities from MAJ JONATHAN P REVANTE (CE) PA to LTC ODNAMIR A RIMANDO (CE) PA, who assumed duty as the Officer-in-Charge, GSMO.

Reinforcing the Philippine Army's commitment to building resilient infrastructure that supports mission accomplishment and troop welfare, the 549th Engineer Battalion, 54th Engineer Brigade, PA successfully completed the repair and maintenance of 2-units student barracks at Camp Paulino Santos Military Reservation, Brgy Dado, Alamada, Cotabato. The accomplishment marks another milestone in the Army's continuing efforts to modernize its facilities and provide quality living and learning environments for soldiers undergoing training and professional military education.

The Repair and Maintenance of Student Barracks 3 (CPSMR10) and the Repair and Maintenance of Student Barracks 5 (CPSMR12) were undertaken by the 549th Engineer Battalion as part of its continuing support to the infrastructure requirements of the 6th Infantry Division, PA. Designed to improve the safety, functionality, and overall condition of the facilities, the projects provide soldiers and trainees with a more conducive environment for learning, rest, and daily military activities.

Following comprehensive inspection and evaluation, both projects were certified as 100 percent complete and fully compliant with the approved plans, specifications, and engineering standards, affirming the Battalion's adherence to quality workmanship and efficient project implementation.

A formal turnover ceremony was held on 31 July 2026 to officially mark the completion and acceptance of the 2-units student barracks which was turned over by LTC NOEL C SALVAJAN CE (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer of the 549th Engineer Battalion, 54th Engineer Brigade, PA. The projects were received by MGEN VLADIMIR R CAGARA PA, Commander of the 6th Infantry Division, PA duly represented by BGEN EDGAR L CATU PA, Assistant Division Commander, 6ID, PA and the concurrent Commander of the 601st Infantry Brigade alongside COL GUILLERMO T MABUTE JR INF (GSC) PA, Commandant of the 6th Division Training School, 6th Infantry Division, PA.

The 54th Engineer Brigade confirms that a military engineering vehicle of the 545th Engineer Construction Battalion was involved in a road accident at KM 2, Barangay Kajatian, Indanan, Sulu, on 31 July 2026.

The vehicle was conducting an official mission in support of a mobile crane operation when it reportedly experienced a mechanical malfunction, resulting in an accident that caused injuries to several civilians and damage to nearby properties.

Immediately following the incident, military personnel responded and coordinated with local government authorities, the Philippine National Police, emergency responders, and medical personnel to ensure the immediate evacuation of the injured civilians to the Sulu Provincial Hospital for appropriate medical care. Assistance is continuously being provided to the affected individuals and their families.

The 54th Engineer Brigade expresses its heartfelt concern for those injured and sincerely hopes for their speedy and complete recovery.An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Brigade is fully cooperating with the concerned authorities and remains committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and the appropriate assistance to all those affected.

On 31 July 2026, the 54th Engineer Brigade, under the leadership of BGEN DARWIN F HERNANDEZ, PA, participated in the Turn-over Ceremony of the newly rehabilitated classroom of Begang Central Elementary School.

The activity also featured the "Seeds of Hope: Children of Bangsa Sug" gift-giving initiative, bringing smiles and encouragement to the pupils.

The rehabilitation of the school was facilitated by the 545th Engineer Battalion under the 54th Engineer Brigade. Faithful to its mission, the 54th Engineer Brigade continues to support, local government units, and partner stakeholders in laying strong foundations for stronger communities and a stronger nation.
