SECURITY COVERAGE FOR MIDTERM POLLS IN WESTERN VISAYAS SUCCESSFUL
ILOILO City – The region’s top brass reported no major election-related crime incidents in yesterday’s national and local elections in Western Visayas.
Police Brigadier General Jack L. W***y, director of Police Regional Office 6, cited the massive deployment of police personnel, mobilization of volunteer groups and intensified advocacy campaigns as pivotal factors in preventing untoward incidents and other poll-related violence.
“We saw it coming. Our preparations were serious and pro-active,” he said.
It was noted that even before the election period kicked off on January 12, the PRO6 has already taken major steps to ensure the peaceful, secure and orderly polls. Its security plan has employed strategic preparations to deter criminality and other threats that have potential to disrupt the electoral processes.
PRO6 has been aggressive on the implementation of COMELEC gun ban, monitoring of possible employment of Private Armed Groups, and intelligence gathering to thwart any threat to peace, order and security.
PBGen W***y also underscored that stakeholders’ collaboration and community engagement, along with the meticulous ex*****on of the plans and strategies of all units involved were indispensable factors to the successful security coverage.
"We were not all alone in this endeavor. We deeply appreciate the support of our stakeholders and the public for making this possible," he said.
He, however, reminds the public that this is not yet the end of the security coverage. To maintain the integrity of the elections, PRO-6 will continue its operational deployments in the region until all election paraphernalia, particularly the automated counting machines, are safely pulled out and all election results transmitted.
The PRO-6 will remain vigilant and on the lookout for potential security concerns that may arise in the post-election period, he quipped.*
