๐ฅ Fire Facts: Properties of Fire
Fire is a chemical reaction known as combustion, which occurs when fuel, heat, and oxygen combine. Understanding the properties of fire helps prevent and control fire incidents.
๐ฅ Key Properties of Fire
1. Fire Needs Three Elements (Fire Triangle)
Heat โ Raises the fuel to its ignition temperature.
Fuel โ Any combustible material (wood, paper, gasoline, etc.).
Oxygen โ Supports combustion, usually from the air.
2. Fire Produces Heat
Heat spreads through:
Conduction โ Transfer through solid materials.
Convection โ Transfer through liquids and gases.
Radiation โ Transfer through electromagnetic waves.
3. Fire Produces Light
Flames emit visible light due to the combustion process.
4. Fire Produces Smoke and Toxic Gases
Smoke can reduce visibility and contain harmful gases such as carbon monoxide.
5. Fire Spreads
Fire can spread rapidly when sufficient fuel and oxygen are available.
6. Fire Has Different Stages
Incipient Stage โ Beginning of fire.
Growth Stage โ Fire increases in size.
Fully Developed Stage โ Maximum heat release.
Decay Stage โ Fire diminishes due to lack of fuel or oxygen.
