The Haribon Foundation is currently in its second year of implementing the โSafeguarding Central Panay Mountainsโ Project - an initiative that supports the DENRโs efforts to declare the Central Panay Mountain Range as a Protected Area.
This project aims to strengthen the engagement and governance of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs), in collaboration with key stakeholders, as part of the preparations for the mountain rangeโs formal establishment as a Protected Area.
In line with this, ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ข๐ก ๐๐ข๐จ๐ก๐๐๐ง๐๐ข๐ก, ๐๐ก๐., a CSO-accredited group of the Municipality of Valderrama, through ๐ ๐. ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ด๐ถ๐ฎ ๐๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ข. ๐๐ฎ๐ด๐ผ๐ต๐ผ๐, Conservation Specialist for Site Conservation Governance, visited the MENRO-Valderrama to coordinate and align conservation initiatives with local government planning processes. They were warmly welcomed by the MENRO staff headed by ๐๐ป๐ฃ. ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ผ ๐. ๐ฅ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ผ ๐๐๐, OIC-MENRO.
The meeting also focused on preparations for the ๐ฝ๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐ฎ ๐๐ช๐๐๐ฉ ๐๐ค๐ก๐ช๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐๐ง๐จ ๐๐ง๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ฃ๐, tentatively scheduled on the 2nd week of May 2026, aimed at strengthening the capacity of forest guards and community partners in protecting and preserving our natural resources.
This collaboration highlights the shared commitment of all stakeholders in conserving biodiversity and safeguarding the Central Panay Mountain Range for future generations.
