Urdaneta City University was honored to welcome Dr. Padmakumar on May 25, 2026, during the University Flag Ceremony and as the distinguished resource speaker for the training workshop on Building a High-Performing Research Culture.

During the morning session, Dr. Padmakumar shared the best practices, strategies, and experiences that have contributed to the strong research culture of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), providing valuable insights on how institutions can foster research productivity, collaboration, and academic excellence.

The afternoon session highlighted the research initiatives of UCU faculty researchers, who presented their ongoing and completed studies. Dr. Padmakumar actively engaged with the presenters, offering constructive feedback, expert recommendations, and valuable perspectives to further strengthen the quality, relevance, and impact of their research.

In a remarkable display of global academic collaboration, the Urdaneta City University (UCU) Center for Research and Development recently hosted a virtual meeting with esteemed resource speakers from Christ University, Bangalore, India.

Dr. Padmakumar captivated the audience with a discussion on Popular Culture, exploring how everyday media, trends, and societal narratives influence our collective identity. Following this, Dr. Saurabh Das presented an engaging overview of the International Conference on Popular Culture and National Identities, sharing insights into contemporary research and global perspectives in the field.

The session also included an engaging open forum, allowing participants to interact directly with the resource speakers and clarify concepts, share perspectives, and deepen their understanding of the topics discussed.

The virtual session brought together UCUโ€™s academic leadership and faculty, including Dr. Josephine Lambinicio, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mary Grace M. Bibat, Head of Gender and Development, as well as Deans, Program Heads, and Research Coordinators from various colleges: Teacher Education, Arts and Sciences, Information Technology, Health Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Criminal Justice, Human Sciences, Pharmacy, Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Business Management and Accountancy.

Participants lauded the session for its richness in ideas and its potential to inspire further interdisciplinary research. The collaboration not only strengthened ties between UCU and Christ University but also highlighted the importance of international dialogue in enhancing educational and research excellence.

Through initiatives like this, UCU continues to champion global learning, bridging borders to bring fresh perspectives and innovative scholarship to its academic community.

The Center for Research and Development participated in the Strategic and Operational Planning Meeting and General Assembly held on March 3โ€“4, 2026, at the DOST Ilocos Region Office.

The university was represented by ๐‘จ๐’“๐’„๐’‰. ๐‘ฑ๐’†๐’‚๐’ ๐‘ป. ๐‘บ๐’‚๐’๐’•๐’๐’”, Research Coordinator and faculty member of the College of Engineering and Architecture. The meeting served as a venue for aligning strategic directions and operational plans, as well as exploring opportunities for research and development collaboration within the Ilocos Region.

This engagement strengthens the universityโ€™s participation in regional initiatives that support innovation, research development, and industry collaboration.

The Center for Research and Development (CRD) received recognition during the Gawad Pedro T. Orata 2026, held on February 27, 2026 at the Urdaneta City Cultural and Sports Complex.

During the event, the CRD was awarded for ARETE (Academic Ranking and Excellence Through Education) 2025, recognizing the officeโ€™s role in supporting research development and academic initiatives within the university.

In the same ceremony, Dr. Noel L. Guevara, Director of the Center for Research and Development, received the Internationalization Awards in recognition of his efforts in advancing the universityโ€™s research and international engagement.

Prof. Vener Abiett L. Castaรฑaga, Executive Assistant of the Center for Research and Development, also received the Internationalization Awards. In addition, he was honored with a Loyalty Award for his 20 years of dedicated service to the university.

The CRD team was also represented by its staff, Ms. Cheska L. Junatas and Ms. Allyson M. Hilarion, who continue to support the officeโ€™s initiatives in research development and institutional programs.

These recognitions highlight the contributions of the Center for Research and Development and its personnel in strengthening research initiatives and supporting the academic goals.
