ORIENTATION ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF LANGUAGE MAPPING PROCESS
Pursuant to DepEd Order No. 35, s. 2025 titled Guidelines on the Language Mapping Process for Key Stage 1.
The activity was facilitated by Ma’am Jhoana Marie R. Alipio, who served as the main resource speaker. Ma’am Alipio began her session by explaining the rationale of the Language Mapping Process/LMP. She emphasized that LMP is DepEd’s mechanism to systematically identify and classify learners’ primary languages from Kindergarten to Grade 3, as mandated by RA 12027. Under this law, Filipino and English are designated as the primary Medium of Instruction, while learners’ first language/L1 may still be used optionally in qualified monolingual settings.
She guided participants through the step-by-step procedures of the Language Mapping Process, from learner profiling, parent/learner interviews, to proper use and encoding of the Language Identification Tool/LIT.
Ma’am Alipio also stressed key principles of DO 35: accuracy, consistency, and legal compliance in gathering language data. She highlighted that the first cycle of LMP will officially commence on SY 2026-2027, and results will directly inform instructional planning, development of localized materials, and classroom language use.
The orientation ended with Ma’am Alipio reminding everyone that “language should be a bridge, not a barrier to learning.” She encouraged teachers to implement the LMP with fidelity to support context-responsive, evidence-based teaching in early grades.
