In the Philippines, an archipelago frequently challenged by typhoons, mangroves serve as a vital "green belt" where land and sea meet, acting as a natural buffer against devastating storms and storm surges. Beyond mere protection, their complex root systems stabilize coastlines by preventing erosion and filter water by trapping sediments and pollutants before they reach the open ocean. These tidal forests are also the "nurseries of the sea," where they protect fisheries by providing a safe sanctuary for juvenile fish and crustaceans, ensuring food security and livelihoods for millions of Filipinos.

Through its continued support for strengthened coastal protection, the Provincial Government of Bohol, led by Governor Aris Aumentado, attended the first meeting of the Coastal Law Enforcement Council (CLEC) Cluster V, composed of the municipalities of Mabini, Candijay, and Ubay, held as part of the cluster’s coordinated efforts to safeguard marine resources.

During the meeting, Gov. Aumentado conveyed the Provincial Government’s readiness to provide essential equipment and sea transport assets, including a speedboat, to enhance enforcement operations against illegal fishing activities within the cluster’s coastal areas.

CLEC Cluster V is headed by Ongie Bernales-Lim, Municipal Mayor of Mabini, whose leadership continues to foster collaboration among local government units in strengthening marine law enforcement initiatives.

The Provincial Government recognized the importance of unity and inter-municipal cooperation in protecting Bohol’s marine ecosystems, reaffirming its commitment to sustained environmental governance aligned with the Strategic Governance Roadmap of Bohol, a UNESCO Global Geopark.
