The world recognized our island not only for its breathtaking landscapes, but for the stories written in our rocks, rivers, caves, seas, culture, and people. Today, we proudly celebrate the anniversary of the designation of the 𝐁𝐨𝐡𝐨𝐥 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐔𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐂𝐎 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬’ 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐔𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐂𝐎 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤.

This recognition is more than a title. It is a responsibility entrusted to every Boholano.

A Geopark is not only about protecting nature. It is about protecting identity, culture, heritage, and the future. It reminds us that every hill, coastline, mangrove, reef, cave, and community holds a story worth preserving for the next generation. Through sustainable tourism, environmental stewardship, local livelihood, education, and community participation, the Geopark creates opportunities that benefit both people and planet.

As one Bohol, we can embrace this designation by becoming guardians of our environment, supporting local products and communities, preserving our traditions, practicing responsible tourism, and teaching the youth the value of our natural and cultural heritage. The future of the Geopark does not rest on institutions alone, it lives in the collective actions of every Boholano.

To our communities, partners, advocates, youth, tourism stakeholders, local government units, fisherfolk, farmers, educators, and every proud Boholano — thank you for being part of this journey.

Today, the Ubay Tourism Office visited 𝙍&𝙂 𝙎𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙨 in 𝐓𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐥, 𝐔𝐛𝐚𝐲, where a wide variety of shells are displayed in natural tones and organically enhanced colors. Each piece reflects simple craftsmanship and is available for purchase as a souvenir from Ubay. 𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝟒 | 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟏𝟐, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

Today, the Ubay Tourism Office, under the Office of the Mayor, traveled to 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 (𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳 𝘉𝘰𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘚𝘪𝘵𝘦), taking time to observe and experience the area firsthand. Stretching about 750 meters, the mangrove area is home to 27 species, offering a quiet coastal setting that feels simple, natural, and grounded. The journey was unhurried, the air was fresh, and the green surroundings were easy to appreciate. 👌

We took a calm 𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘢 ride of around 30 minutes to reach the end of the supposed boardwalk, where the sandbar area becomes visible during low tide, as the water in this part is shallow. If the boardwalk were still intact, the route would have been walkable—but since it was damaged, we traveled by boat instead.

Thank you to the Barangay Council of Sinandigan, headed by Hon. Jimmy Dabalos, with Councilors Hon. Ariel Atupan, Hon. Narcita Cuyno, Hon. Marelyn Degamo, and Hon. Marivic Ursos; to Kuya Marcos Dumagan, the bangka operator; and to Jose Cuyno, owner of the bangka, for the safe operation, bountiful snacks, meaningful conversations, and for allowing and supporting the activity.

The third day continued at 𝘿𝘼-𝘽𝙀𝙎 in 𝐆𝐚𝐛𝐢, 𝐔𝐛𝐚𝐲, with a brief yet insightful orientation conducted by 𝘚𝘪𝘳 𝘍𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘹, highlighting the importance of 𝙪𝙗𝙞 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘨𝘦𝘰𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥 proposed as one of Bohol’s submissions to UNESCO. The discussion emphasized how local agricultural products reflect both cultural identity and geological significance.

The visit also included a demonstration and explanation of the grafting process, showcasing how this technique helps improve plant quality, strengthen varieties, and increase productivity. We were further introduced to the value and beauty of experimenting with different plants and seedlings as a way to elevate plant breeds and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝟑 | 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟖, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

The third day of our journey brought us closer to nature and local experiences in 𝐋𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐠, 𝐔𝐛𝐚𝐲.

The day began with a memorable 𝙃𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙍𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙮 at Capayas Dam, allowing us to experience the scenic landscape in a more personal and engaging way while enjoying the open space and fresh air. This activity is already enjoyed by local tourists and visitors as a way to experience horseback riding and learn basic handling. While there is still no established venue or structured facility for training and proper coaching, the activity itself remains highly engaging and promising. Considering the presence of numerous horse owners in Ubay, especially in Lomangog, this experience holds strong potential for future development as a formal tourism and livelihood activity.

We then visited 𝙆𝙖𝙪𝙜𝙟𝙖𝙬𝙣 𝙁𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙨, where we observed the natural flow of water surrounded by the local environment. The area offered a quiet stop for the group and a chance to appreciate the site as it is, in its natural and undeveloped state.

Last week, we had the opportunity to explore and experience the well-known 𝙅𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙥𝙝 𝘼𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙁𝙖𝙧𝙢 in Barangay 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐔𝐛𝐚𝐲. 🍃

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed into a refreshing world of nature, learning, and organic living. Guided through the farm’s different spaces, we were introduced to a wide variety of plants and crops that clearly reflect its strong commitment to organic and sustainable farming.

One of the most memorable parts of the visit was seeing the “𝘬𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘢” where Sir Joseph films his vlogs, the 𝘊𝘈𝘔𝘗𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘱𝘢 camping site designed for immersive outdoor stays, and their unique accommodation units named after plants, each with corresponding rates that reflect the farm’s eco-friendly and thoughtful concept. Every corner of the farm tells a quiet but powerful story of simplicity, purpose, and harmony with nature.

It was also an honor for us to personally witness their advocacy in action. Through a simple yet powerful belief that if nature did not make it, it is best to think twice before consuming it, the experience gave us a deeper appreciation of natural farming, mindful living, and healthy choices.

🍽️We were also touched by the farm’s warm hospitality through a generous snack prepared for us, 𝘾𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙫𝙖 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙣, flavored with Coconut Sugar and 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗶𝗯𝘂𝗼𝗸, paired with refreshing passion fruit juice with mint. These simple yet thoughtfully prepared refreshments made the experience even more meaningful and heartfelt.

Exploring another promising destination in Ubay, the Ubay Tourism Office under the Municipal Mayor’s Office, together with the Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Tourism Chairperson, Hon. Galicano Atup, conducted a site visit at the 𝙇𝙂𝙐 𝙐𝙗𝙖𝙮 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙉𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙮🌱 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙠 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 in Barangay 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧, 𝐔𝐛𝐚𝐲.
