Six youth-led agribusiness projects each received โ‚ฑ50,000 in startup grants during the business pitch competition that capped the three-day Youth Entrepreneurship Program โ€“ Be Your Own Boss (YEP-BYOB) on September 3 at the Cagayan Provincial Farm School and Agri-Tourism Center in Amulung, Cagayan.

The training equipped young farmers and leaders with practical entrepreneurial skills through sessions on business idea generation, market research, digital marketing, and financial planning, helping them turn agricultural ideas into viable enterprises.

The proposals were evaluated based on innovation, financial feasibility, sustainability, and community impact by Ma. Belen Lim, CPA, MBA, General Manager and Owner of Golden Press; Dr. Archimedes A. Articulo, Executive Assistant of the Governor and Cagayan Vision Team Member; and Atty. Robin James Gunnacao, President and CEO of the Cooperative Bank of Cagayan.

The six winning 4-H Clubs in the business pitch competition were the Iguig 4-H Club for โ€œVegie Burgerโ€, Sta. Ana 4-H Club for โ€œVegie Sea Crackersโ€, Sambayanan 4-H Club for โ€œBanana, Kamote, Taro Chips Processingโ€, Solana 4-H Club for โ€œIntegrated Farmingโ€, Tuao 4-H Club for โ€œNative Chicken and Egg Productionโ€, and Sto. Niรฑo 4-H Club for โ€œFree Range Chickenโ€ production.

Complementing the awards, the other six participating 4-H Clubs received โ‚ฑ10,000 each in seed support, highlighting the Provincial Governmentโ€™s inclusive support for youth entrepreneurship. On behalf of DTI R2 Cagayan Provincial Director Mary Ann Dy, Business Development Division Chief Cynthia C. Talattad commended the participants for their creativity and perseverance, reaffirming the shared commitment of DTI and PGC to support their transition from training to actual business ventures.

Dr. Articulo, meanwhile, conveyed the gratitude of Governor Edgar B. Aglipay and the Provincial Government of Cagayan to the participants, municipal coordinators, and organizers. He emphasized that the grants represent an investment in the youth, empowering them to build confidence, pursue sustainable enterprises, and contribute to the growth of their local communities.

The YEP-BYOB culmination thus marked not only the completion of the training, but also the beginning of their journey from aspiring entrepreneurs to emerging agribusiness owners.

This September, DTI Region 2 joins the celebration of the 2026 Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM), recognizing the creativity, talent, culture, and innovation of Cagayan Valley creatives and their contribution to enterprise, tourism, employment, and regional development.

The celebration is institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11904 or the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act (PCIDA) and further strengthened by Memorandum Circular No. 130, which calls on government agencies to support the 2026 PCIM and encourages LGUs and the private sector to take part in advancing the countryโ€™s creative industries.

With this yearโ€™s theme, โ€œWe Are a Creative Nation,โ€ let us give greater value to the people behind our art, culture, designs, crafts, content, performances, and other creative works.
Support our creatives. Choose local creative products and services. Promote their work. Create opportunities. Invest in creativity.

๐€๐“๐Œ | Young aspiring entrepreneurs in Cagayan are taking their first steps toward building sustainable enterprises as the 2026 Youth Entrepreneurship Program โ€“ Be Your Own Boss (YEP-BYOB) officially opens today, September 1, at the Cagayan Provincial Farm School and Agri-Tourism Center, Anquiray, Amulung, Cagayan.

Conducted in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Cagayan (PGC) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 - Cagayan Provincial Office, the three-day activity running from September 1โ€“3 gathers a total of 45 participants representing 4-H Clubs across 12 municipalities in the provinceโ€”namely Lal-lo, Sanchez Mira, Santa Ana, Tuguegarao City, Iguig, Solana, Sto. Niรฑo, Ballesteros, Baggao, Camalaniugan, Tuao, and Gattaranโ€”together with their respective Municipal 4-H Club Coordinators. The program aims to equip these youth leaders with essential entrepreneurial knowledge and practical skills, covering business ideation, market understanding, business planning, digital entrepreneurship, and pitching.

The opening program commenced with a warm welcome from Acting Provincial Agriculturist Engr. Arsenio A. Antonio, who officially welcomed all participants, facilitators, and visitors. In his remarks, Engr. Antonio emphasized the vital role of the youth in modernizing local industries and integrating agribusiness into their potential ventures.

Setting an inspiring tone for the event, Dr. Pearlita Lucia P. Mabasa from the Vision Team - Agriculture Cluster delivered a message on behalf of Governor Edgar B. Aglipay. In the Governor's message, she highlighted the provincial government's steadfast commitment to youth development and agricultural innovation under the administration's platform, encouraging the participants to harness their skills and turn entrepreneurial ideas into sustainable local enterprises.

The program also featured a dedicated video message from DTI R2 Regional Director Ma. Sofia G. Narag, CESO V, who underscored the importance of youth involvement in local economic development by driving innovation, generating future employment, and helping build resilient communities across the region.

Following the opening messages, Provincial Local Youth Development Officer Meynard Abram Ventura acknowledged the attendees, while DTI R2 Cagayan Business Development Division Chief Cynthia C. Talattad presented the program background, overview, and objectives, and formally introduced the team of resource speakers.

The entrepreneurship sessions are facilitated by a pool of expert Resource Speakers from DTI R2 Cagayan who underwent specialized Trainers' Training for the YEP-BYOB program, equipping them with the expertise to guide the participants throughout the modules. The team includes TIDS Jessamae Babaran, alongside Negosyo Center Business Counselors (NCBCs) Khrisia Ann Lim, Jose Talosig III, Delila Mayormita, Gracel Manegdeg, and Precy Cristobal.
