We may be young, but are driven and passionate to immerse and touch lives.

Months have passed since the start of this new journey of our young trisikad drivers. Stories have improved, perspectives have changed.

Meet the people behind Ipalihug Kay Manong of The EstrawngHeroes composed of students from high school, fresh graduates, and trisikad drivers aged 18-30. Partners include the PYDN, LGU-Tigbauan, and Sangguniang Kabataan.

Ipalihug kay Manong has been recognized as the Community Spark Awardee or the 3rd Most Outstanding Youth-led COVID-19 Response in Visayas by the Positive Youth Development Network. Our road to the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Award, the biggest award-giving body for youth organizations in the country, also continues as we got into the National Finals.

It is tough to balance academics, work, and advocacy, especially during a pandemic. But it is worth it.

Know More about Manong!

With the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine as precautionary measure against COVID-19, all public transportation operations have been suspended. In Tigbauan, Iloilo, a total of 968 drivers lost their jobs in the middle of this pandemic. Three hundred eighty-four of them are sikad drivers, and thirty-percent of them belong to the children & youth sectors with ages raging from 13-30. They cycle to send themselves to school while helping their respective households as they earn a maximum of only PHP 50.00 on regular operations.

Unlike other businesses, drivers have no other choices but to wait for donations and amelioration programs to feed their families.

With these in mind, MANONG was born.

MANONG aims to highlight the significant role of our drivers in the society. We had them during the most difficult times, like rainy seasons, to bring us to our homes safe and sound. They were there when we are in a rush to our workplaces. For their families, drivers feed them with the little amount that they earn through-out the time that they are working under the sun. And that, they will still be there to save our day even in times of pandemic.
