In 1912, the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) was established.

The first ROTC unit was born with the establishment of the Department of Military Science and Tactics at the University of the Philippines in July 3, 1922. And it only became mandatory after 13 years when President Manuel Quezon signed Commonwealth Act 1, also known as the National Defense Act of 1935.

It was disbanded and demobilized after the World War II since the country could not afford to keep a large military force without depleting its resources. But later restored in 1967 as a mandatory program by President Ferdinand Marcos, who was a product of ROTC class 1937 with Executive Order 59.

Since the National Service Training Program Act of 2001 was passed, said program was no longer a mandatory but an optional program for the college students.

Charlie Coy 302RRIBn joins DepEd Brigada Eskwela 2022

CARDONA, Gerona Tarlac – 150800 August 2022, Sgt. Alex Japitana PA (Res) mustered the members of the Charlie Company 302nd Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion and proceeded to Cardona National High School, Cardona, Gerona Tarlac and rendered service.

The personnel of the Charlie Coy assisted the school in trimming trees and clearing their gardens and provided information dissemination regarding Philippine Army Reserve Force.

The Brigada Eskwela is a Nationwide School Maintenance Program of the Department of Education that engages all education stakeholders to contribute their time, efforts, and resources in ensuring that public schools are all set in time for class opening.

Present also during the Brigada Eskwela activity are the members of the barangay Cardona council headed by Hon. Rey F. Granil. HPTA representatives and all the faculty members of Cardona National School lead by Zenaida O. Samson PhD, school head. And student leaders and volunteers.
