TARLAC Governor Christian Tell Yap accompanied President Ferdinand โ€œBongbongโ€ Marcos Jr. in inspecting the facilities and athletes at the National Academy of Sports (NAS) in New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac on July 14, as the government ramps up investments in training future champions.
The president and Gov. Yap were joined by Education Secretary Sonny Angara, Bases Conversion and Development Authority President Jake Bingcang and other officials, toured the institutionโ€™s academic, training and residential facilities, highlighting the government's continuing investment in grassroots sports development through integrated education and high-performance training.
Established under Republic Act 11470, the NAS serves as the country's premier institution for academically gifted student-athletes, combining quality education with specialized sports training under one campus.
Pres. Marcos inspected the fully operational Phase 1 facilities, including the Academic and Administration Building and the Multi-Sports Gymnasium, before checking the nearly completed Phase 2 developments, which include a Gymnastics Hall, Sports Performance Building and residential facilities for students and staff.
He also witnessed some athletes during their training session.
In his Facebook post, Gov. Yap thanked the president for his visit and said that it is an honor that a facility such as the NAS is situated in Tarlac province.
โ€œPersonal na binisita ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos ang National Academy of Sports (NAS) Campus sa New Clark City upang makita ang takbo ng konstruksyon nito.
The NAS campus is part of New Clark City's sports complex, which was developed as the country's flagship sports hub and hosted several events during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.---๐€๐ซ๐ฏ๐ข๐ง ๐…. ๐Œ. ๐‚๐š๐›๐š๐ฅ๐ฎ (๐๐ˆ๐Ž)
