TO THOSE PEOPLE WHO UNDERESTIMATE AGRICULTURE/OUR COURSE, TAKE TIME TO READ THIS AT ISASAKSAK KO SA NGALA NGALA NYO ANG MEANING ANG AGRIKULTURA!👨‍🌾👩‍🌾

Agriculture is Cool. It is. Wanna know why?
I’ll start with this cliché kind of intro:

“Ano naman ginagawa nyo jan?”
“Naggagardening lang kayo?”
“Ano yan, tanim-tanim? Ganun?”
“Saan kayo mapupunta paggraduate? Sa bukid?”

It took me a while before posting this because I know where I stand: You don’t need anyone’s approval. What they say about you doesn’t define who you are but only shows what kind of person they are. I don't have to prove myself, I know that. I don't have to give explanations why I took up agri course, I don't have to defend and answer the hows and whys, but seeing and reading those posts regarding agriculture students who feel like they are discriminated, or being judged, which I personally experienced way back college days, I feel like I also have to share my own thoughts. I am sharing this to at least widen the perspective of others about agriculture, not to change at all but at least make them able to look at the bigger picture. Some may feel guilty, and yes this is for you. As the saying goes; if the shoe fits, always feel free to wear. If not, hear me still.

I am not the one feeding you. It would be hypocritical if I tell you I do. The farmer does. Agriculture does. Those grains of rice on your plate, those pieces of meat which you could hardly chew because your mother didn’t cook it too well, the fruits you love to eat, these are products of agriculture and technically, it feeds you. What’s the use of money if no one produces food for you? And agriculture does. Agriculture can live without you. Farmers can live without you. But can you live without them? Agriculture wasn’t termed The Backbone of Economy for nothing. The farmers, they are our everyday heroes, the urecognized heroes.

Balik tayo sa pagiging agriculture student ko. Someone told us before, “Ano namang pinag-aaralan nyo jan? Nagagardening lang kayo? Tanim-tanim? Ganun? Saan kayo mapupunta paggraduate? Sa bukid?”
I came to think, eh anu naman? What’s wrong with having a garden? Ano masama sa pagtatanim? Ah siguro kase iniisip nila na matatalino daw kami tapos mapupunta lang sa pagtatanim. Why do we have this stigma? Why are we always stereotyping that agriculture is only for those who have low educational attainment, those who aren’t able to get a degree, o para dun sa may mahihinang utak?

And yes, nagbubungkal kami ng lupa. Gumagawa kami ng plots na 1 meter by 5 meters, with 3 replications and different treatments. It’s not just mere planting because agriculture is an art and science. We do experimental research. We test as to what type or amount of fertilizer the crops will be able to give the highest produce or what mixture of feeds will livestock grow well and healthy. Isn’t it amazing that you can see us in our farming clothes when we have field activity, then you can also see us in our complete uniform when lecture and discussions happen inside the classroom and mostly, you can also see us in our corporate attire when we are defending our thesis or presenting our reports. Cool right?

Academics? Term paper? We make project proposals. We make narrative reports too. We conduct qualitative and quantitative researches. Subjects na pinag-aaralan? We have major subjects and minor subjects too. It is indeed, physically, emotionally and mentally exhausting.

Magaling sa accounting? Maybe you can try our feasibility study (with cash flow statement, balance sheet, debit and credit, income return analysis, assets, liabilities and net worth) in Agricultural Economics and Marketing.

Magaling sa vocabs and memorization? Try memorizing scientific names of different crops in Crop Science with family and order, scientific names of animals in Animal Science, scientific names of insects, causal organisms of plant and animal diseases (fungi, virus, nematode, bacteria, viroids), and scientific names of weeds in Crop Protection. Xanthomonas oryzae pv. Oryzicola is an example and it is the bacterial leaf streak of rice.

Magaling sa Chemistry? Then try Cation Exchange Capacity, Bulk density, Particle density, pH, crystalline and amorphous, silicate clays and saturations in Soil Science.

Magaling sa Math? Then try fertilizer computation, pesticidal calculation, compounding of feed rations and field lay-outing.

Ano? Madali pa rin ba? Wala na. Finish ka na
kapag sinabi mo paring madali. Idagdag na
natin yung 3-day board examination. And take
note OJT PALANG NAMIN SA BANG BANSA
NA! INTERNATIONAL NA! Ang cool diba?

To sum it up, Agriculture tackles different fields and areas. We have courses/subjects in biotechnology, genetics, community development, soil chemistry, soil microbiology, soil taxonomy, soil physics, soil classification and landuse, soil fertility and management, animal physiology, animal anatomy and taxonomy, animal nutrition, animal breeding, livestock production, agricultural engineering, plant breeding, plant nutrition, crop physiology, postharvest handling, crop management, toxicology, pest management, nursery management, food processing, entrepreneurial, extension education and even communication.

Actually wala namang madali. Alam nyo yan. Whatever courses you take up, mapa-engineering, education, o accountancy man yan eh siguradong paghihirapan mo, pagpupuyatan mo at ilalaban mo ng patayan. Kaya hindi dapat nagkukumparahan kung ano yung mas mahirap at mas madali. It would be unfair. Ang akin lang naman, stop the stigma. Do not stereotype. Nakakadagdag kase sya sa hirap at pressure. Do not look at them as if they are different. Do not laugh at them like they are in a lower level because it only shows na mas nakakatawa ka, lol. And maybe pitiful too.

I am a graduate in Agriculture major in Crop Technology and Because of Agriculture, I went to work and travel United States,Israel as well as New Zealand.🇺🇸🇮🇱🇳🇿

Agriculture can bring you a lot of fun and excitement as it allows you to experience new things such as milking cows or harvesting kiwi fruits, Why not?

Wherever you go, you can see a lot of things that are directly related in Agriculture such as orchard farming, poultry farming ,and live stock.

Seeing these everyday makes your passion and love for agriculture. A lot of people do not prefer agriculture because they believe agriculture can not lead them to success instead they chose other industries. But in reality, agriculture offers endless opportunities that reaches through out the world.

Being in agriculture can give you a 6 or more digit salary too!!

Agriculture is every where.🇮🇱🇺🇸🇵🇭🇭🇲🇨🇦🇬🇧🇳🇴🇳🇱
Agriculture brings you endless opportunities

As George Washington said "Agriculture is the most healthful, most useful and most noble employment of man."💚

For those students who feel discouraged and loses confidence, this is for you. Some of you might start to think like you have chosen a wrong path, I tell you, it is the best decision you have ever made. You are more than capable of what other people say or think. Just like me, wala kang kailangang patunayan. Uulitin ko, hindi mo kailangan ng approval ng iba. Be successful on your own ways.
Build your castle out of those stones they are throwing against you.

I know we have different struggles. We are facing everyday challenges.
In the end of the day, we are the one who is responsible for our own lives.
Just avoid hating. The world is already full of hate and negative vibes. Rather, spread love all the time.
