Thousands of people gathered at the New San Nicolas De Tolentino Cathedral of the Diocese of Tandag to pay their last respects to the Action Man of the Province of Surigao del Sur, late Governor Vicente “BB” T. Pimentel, Jr. At around 8:00 o’clock in the morning, the remains of Gov. Pimentel were carried from Pimentel’s Mansion to the Provincial Capitol before they were transported to the New Tandag City Cathedral.
The funeral mass was concelebrated by several priests from local dioceses in the Province of Surigao del Sur. After the concelebrated mass, the Pimentel family and several dignitaries from the government were all in tears as Carrascal Mayor VJ Pimentel eulogized the late Governor.
The remains of Gov. Pimentel were in a casket traveling on a hearse, as thousands of people said farewell and spilled out of the Cathedral onto the streets to show their love and support for the late Gov. Vicente Pimentel, Jr.
Everyone kept their eyes on the funeral hearse as his coffin passed through the streets, and as the convoy inched its way forward until it reached the Tandag City Memorial Garden.
The interment took place at the Memorial Garden at around 11:45 am and everyone couldn’t help but cry their eyes out during the interment of Gov. Pimentel’s remains.
Gov. Vicente Pimentel, Jr. started his political career as Barangay Captain in the ‘70s, and served as Mayor of Carrascal from 1992 to 2001. He became Governor of the Province of Surigao del Sur from 2001 to 2010 and was re-elected as Mayor of Carrascal from 2010 to 2016. From 2016 to present, he served as the Provincial Governor of Surigao del Sur.
Gov. Pimentel was tagged as the “Action Man” because he was always willing to pour all his blood, sweat and tears to serve the people of Surigao del Sur.
