TALISAY CITY POLICE TAKE CUSTODY OF MAN ARRESTED FOR GRAVE THREATS, ILLEGAL FI***RM POSSESSION
A 64-year-old man was taken into police custody after he was turned over by Barangay Public Safety Officers (BPSOs) for allegedly threatening civilians with a fi***rm and illegally possessing the weapon in Purok Sambag, Barangay Candulawan, Talisay City, on July 12, 2026.
At around 2:25 a.m., personnel of the Talisay City Police Station received the suspect, who had been placed under a lawful citizen's arrest by responding BPSOs following a disturbance in the area.
Initial investigation revealed that at approximately 12:16 a.m., the suspect, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, went on a rampage and reportedly pointed a .38 caliber revolver at several passersby, including a 19-year-old complainant. Alarmed residents immediately sought assistance from the Barangay Public Safety Officers.
Responding BPSOs promptly intervened and caught the suspect while still in possession of the fi***rm. He was initially placed under citizen's arrest for Grave Threats before requesting assistance from the Talisay City Police Station.
A SWAT team from the Talisay City Police Station immediately responded to the scene. When police officers required the suspect to present any government-issued license or permit authorizing him to possess the fi***rm, he failed to produce the necessary documents.
Recovered from the suspect's possession were one (1) caliber .38 revolver and one (1) live round of am******on for the same fi***rm.
The suspect was informed of the nature of his arrest and apprised of his constitutional rights in a language known and understood by him.
He is now under the custody of the Talisay City Police Station while appropriate charges for Grave Threats and Violation of Republic Act No. 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Fi****ms and Am******on Regulation Act, are being prepared.
PCOL ABUBAKAR UDANG MANGELEN JR., Provincial Director of the Cebu Police Provincial Office, commended the swift coordination between the Barangay Public Safety Officers and the Talisay City Police Station, emphasizing the vital role of community participation in maintaining peace and public safety. "The immediate response of our Barangay Public Safety Officers and police personnel prevented what could have escalated into a more serious incident. CPPO remains committed to the strict enforcement of laws against illegal fi***rms and acts that threaten the safety of our communities. We encourage the public to continue working closely with law enforcement by promptly reporting similar incidents," PCOL Mangelen said.
The Cebu Police Provincial Office continues to intensify its campaign against loose fi***rms and criminality while promoting stronger collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
