Katibawasan Falls is one of the most iconic natural attractions on Camiguin Island and a must-visit destination for nature lovers.

Overview

Height: Approximately 70 meters (230 feet), making it the tallest waterfall in Camiguin.
Location: Barangay Upper Pandan, about 5 km southeast of the town of Mambajao.
Source: The waterfall is fed by streams originating from the slopes of Mount Timpoong, Camiguin's highest mountain.

What Makes It Special?

Katibawasan Falls plunges in a single, elegant drop into a cool, emerald-green pool surrounded by towering trees, ferns, and tropical vegetation. The refreshing mist and peaceful forest setting make it an ideal place to relax, swim, or simply admire the island's natural beauty.

Things to Do

Take a refreshing dip in the cool natural pool.
Capture stunning photos and videos of the towering waterfall.
Enjoy the lush rainforest scenery and fresh mountain air.
Relax at the picnic areas and cottages available near the falls.

Best Time to Visit

Morning (8:00–10:00 AM) for fewer visitors and softer lighting for photography.
Visit during the dry season (December to May) for more favorable weather, although the falls flow year-round.

Despite its impressive height, Katibawasan Falls has a relatively graceful flow compared to the more powerful cascades of nearby waterfalls, giving it the appearance of a long white ribbon descending through the rainforest.

The Guiob Church Ruins are among Camiguin's most iconic historical landmarks. They are the remains of a Spanish-era Catholic church that was built in the 1800s by Spanish missionaries. The church once served as the center of the thriving town of Catarman.

Everything changed in 1871 when Mount Vulcan erupted. The eruption, accompanied by earthquakes and lava flows, devastated Catarman and buried much of the old town. Many residents lost their lives, while others fled and rebuilt their community elsewhere.

Although the church itself was destroyed, parts of its thick coral-stone walls, convent, and bell tower survived. Today, these ruins stand as a reminder of both the island's volcanic history and the resilience of its people.

Visitors today can enjoy:

Walking through the preserved stone walls and archways.
Seeing the centuries-old bell tower and remains of the convent.
Learning about Camiguin's Spanish colonial past.
Taking photos in the beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding the ruins.

The site is especially popular during sunrise and late afternoon when the warm light highlights the weathered stone walls, making it a favorite stop for photographers and travelers exploring Camiguin.

For many visitors, the Guiob Church Ruins symbolize how faith, history, and nature have shaped the unique story of Camiguin, often called the "Island Born of Fire."
