Strengthening ASF Research Through International Scientific Collaboration

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Paula Leona C. Fletcher, a Balik Scientist under the DOST Balik Scientist Program (BSP), for a 90-day engagement with the Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI).

Dr. Fletcher holds a PhD in Veterinary Medicine from Gyeongsang National University, South Korea, and has served as a Senior Researcher, bringing valuable expertise in immunology and virology to the Philippines.

During her 90-day engagement, Dr. Fletcher has been contributing to R&D activities focused on African Swine Fever (ASF). She has been working alongside the project “Development of a Vector-Based African Swine Fever Virus Vaccine Using a Hepatitis E Virus Nanoparticle Platform” under the Virology and Vaccine Research Program, helping strengthen local capabilities in diagnostics, immunology, virology, and vaccine research.

As part of her engagement, Dr. Fletcher also paid a courtesy call to DOST-ITDI Director, Dr. Annabelle V. Briones, on July 23, 2026.

AMEICC Working Group on the Chemical Industry Visits ITDI

The DOST–Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) hosted the facility visit of delegates from the 31st Meeting of the AEM-METI Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee (AMEICC) Working Group on the Chemical Industry (WG-CI) on August 28, 2026, at the ADMATEL Lecture Room.

The activity featured an introduction to DOST-ITDI and simultaneous tours of the Advanced Device and Materials Testing Laboratory (ADMATEL), Biodegradability, Ecotoxicity, and Compostability (BEC) Laboratory, and Membrane Laboratory and Materials Development Facility.

The visit provided an opportunity to showcase DOST-ITDI’s research and technical capabilities and strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange in support of the chemical industry.

On 20 August 2026, DOST–Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) and the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in metrology and measurement science at the KRISS headquarters in Daejeon, Republic of Korea.

The five-year MoU strengthens cooperation through:
🔬 Collaborative research and technical exchanges
📏 Strengthening measurement standards and calibration and measurement capabilities
📊 Measurement comparisons and scientific cooperation
🎓 Training and capacity-building activities

🏆 During the visit, DOST-ITDI also formally presented KRISS with an Industry Partner Award, recognising its valuable contributions to the National Metrology Division (NMD) and its continued commitment to advancing science, technology, and innovation.

The renewed partnership builds on the institutional cooperation established through the first ITDI-KRISS MoU in 2010 and underscores the importance of international collaboration in strengthening the Philippines' measurement capabilities and National Quality Infrastructure.
