On 20 August 2026, Ambassador Johann Brieger and Madame Roswitha Brieger hosted โAn Afternoon of Music and Viennese Sweetsโ at the Austrian Residence in celebration of 80 years of AustrianโPhilippine Diplomatic Relations through music, culture. ๐ฆ๐น๐ค๐ต๐ญ
In partnership with the Manila Symphony Orchestra, the programme featured Wolfgang Amadeus Mozartโs beloved Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, alongside cherished Filipino compositions played by four exceptionally talented musicians: Jeanne Marquez (violin), Cedric Regalario (violin), Sara Maria Gonzales (viola), and Damodar das Castillo (cello).
The event highlighted the Austrian roots of the Manila Symphony Orchestra. Founded in 1926 by Austrian Maestro Alexander Lippay, the MSO is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, bringing together two remarkable milestones in our shared cultural history!
The event was also Inspired by the tradition of chamber music evenings in the salons of 19th-century Vienna where guests were treated to an array of traditional Viennese sweets and desserts. ๐ฐ๐ฆ๐น
The afternoon concluded with a special sweet surprise: a beautiful anniversary cake featuring the 80th anniversary logo of AustriaโPhilippines diplomatic relations alongside the Manila Symphony Orchestraโs 100th anniversary, a fitting symbol of the enduring friendship between Austria and the Philippines, celebrated through a shared love of music and culture.
