A meaningful evening of fellowship, gratitude, and cultural appreciation unfolded as around 200 attendees, including Imams, Bilals, and Ulamas from various Muslim communities in Maharlika Village gathered for the special dinner in celebration of Eid al-Adha “Feast of Sacrifice” on Friday, May 29, at the Maharlika Trade Center in Barangay Maharlika.
Organized by the Tourism and Trade Office in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office and other partner offices, the gathering brought together representatives from seventeen (17) mosques in Maharlika Village, including Ummat Mosque, Blue Mosque, Muhajireen Masjid, Masjid Condominium, Bandar Mosque, An-Nor Mosque, Targan Mosque, Dalawis Mosque, At-Taqwa Mosque, Al-Asmare Mosque, Salim Warahma Mosque, Al-Ikhwa Mosque, Garden Mosque, Ar-Rahman Mosque, Kalagan Mosque, Umpar Mosque, and Aljamal Mosque.
The celebration highlighted the spirit of Eid al-Adha through fellowship and community engagement. Complementing the special dinner was the “Maharlika Trade Fair,” which featured food, beverages, clothing, and various merchandise from ten participating booths. Two additional booths were dedicated to the distribution of shawarma to 1,000 residents of Barangay Maharlika, further embodying the values of generosity and sharing that define the occasion. The program formally commenced with a Du'a led by Alim Khalid Matling.
In his welcome remarks, Barangay Maharlika Captain Hon. Hareem Pau-Tin expressed his gratitude to Mayor Lani Cayetano for her continued support of the Muslim community:
“Ngayong gabi po ay ipinagdiriwang natin ang Eid al-Adha o Feast of Sacrifice, isang mahalagang okasyon na nagpapaalala sa atin ng pananampalataya, sakripisyo, at pagbabahagi sa kapwa. Nagpapasalamat po ako sa ating Mayor Lani Cayetano sa kanyang patuloy na suporta sa ating komunidad dito sa Barangay Maharlika. Nawa’y patuloy nating mapanatili ang pagkakaisa, paggalang, at malasakit sa isa’t isa.”
Meanwhile, Mayor Lani Cayetano underscored the values of faith, unity, and compassion that define the celebration of Eid al-Adha, stating:
“Ngayong gabi, nagsasalo tayo sa iisang hapag at nagtitipon bilang isang komunidad na gumagalang sa pananampalataya, nagmamalasakit, at nagmamahal sa kapwa. Ang Eid'l Adha ay paalala ng sakripisyo, katapatan, at pagtitiwala sa Allah. Isa rin itong panahon ng pagbabahagi at pag-aabot ng biyaya sa mas maraming tao. Sa ating Probinsyudad, nagbibigay-respeto tayo sa mga natatangi at makabuluhang kultura at tradisyon kaugnay ng pananampalataya. Patuloy nating binubuo ang isang komunidad na may pagkilala sa pagkakaiba-iba habang binubuklod ng pang-unawa at pagkalinga sa bawat isa. Sa ganitong mga katangian natin pinagtitibay ang ganap at tunay na transformative, lively, at caring na Taguig.”
The program also recognized the generosity of Maybank Philippines Inc., which donated two live cows on Monday, May 25, for Qurban (ritual sacrifice). The donation was entrusted to selected Muslim community leaders representing various mosques in Taguig City, extending the spirit of sacrifice, generosity, and service that lies at the heart of Eid al-Adha.
The evening concluded with a vibrant cultural presentation by the Maguiranun Traditional Dance & Music Ensemble Inc., showcasing the rich traditions and heritage of the Muslim community.
The celebration served as a meaningful reflection of the unity, faith, and strong sense of community shared by Taguig’s Muslim residents. By honoring cultural and religious traditions while fostering understanding and inclusivity, the City of Taguig continues to strengthen its commitment to building a Transformative, Lively, and Caring City where diversity is embraced and every resident is valued and respected.
Also present during the event were Tourism Office Head Zaida Ignacio, members of the City Council from Districts 1 and 2, representatives from the Think Big Taguig Team, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, and other barangay officials.
