The week-long celebration of Councilorsโ Week 2026 continued with the opening of the Sportsfest at the Felino Marcelino Stadium that brought together Sangguniang Panlungsod staff, city officials, and councilors in a celebration of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and teamwork on September 2, Wednesday.
The Sportsfest features various sporting events including basketball, softball, volleyball, badminton, bowling, chess, darts, and billiards that promote teamwork, strengthen friendships, and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle among participants.
LIGA President Hon. Marilyn Marcelino emphasized the importance of maintaining resilience and camaraderie. She highlighted that the sports fest is not only an avenue for competition, but also an opportunity to strengthen their bond and foster a sense of unity within the organization.
โMahalaga po sa atin na mapanatili natin ang resilience at camaraderie within us. Ito po talaga ang layunin ng atin pong Mayor Lani Cayetano at Vice Mayor Arvin Ian Alitโang mapanatili po natin ang ating samahan. Sa pamamagitan po nito, marami po tayong matututunan at mas makikilala po natin ang bawat isa."
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Arvin Ian Alit welcomed the participants and encouraged them to actively participate in the different sporting activities. He also urged everyone to use the event as an opportunity to inspire the youth to engage in sports and develop teamwork.
More than just a friendly competition, the event provides an opportunity for the Sangguniang Panlungsod to come together, build stronger connections, and celebrate their shared commitment to public service.
The Sportsfest Championship will be held on September 11 where teams will compete for the championship title.
