More than a ceremonial tradition, the Oath-Taking Ceremony marked the beginning of a shared commitment to lead with integrity, serve with purpose, and uphold the values of the University. As officers of their respective student organizations, they pledged to represent the student body with accountability, dedication, and genuine service—turning their oath into meaningful action for the TCU community.

As this new chapter begins, may this oath be more than words spoken on one day. May it be reflected in every decision made, every initiative pursued, and every act of service rendered. After all, true leadership is not measured by the position one holds, but by the positive impact one leaves on the people and community they serve.

Progress should never come at the cost of our environment.

Artificial Intelligence sure can make things efficient. It could probably even make things better. But at what cost does this bring?

Your phone, laptop, or desktop heats up every time you use it extensively. That's because it processes a certain amount of data within its internal components. When you render an image, video, or use your mobile data extensively, you notice that your device may heat up. Now imagine that but a thousand times more within a specific area.

An AI Data Center is packed up with many of those computing devices. When you prompt an AI, it doesn't use your phone to gather or calculate data to answer your question. A data center does the job. That's when the cooling comes in. To continuously run these facilities, it needs energy and water. It needs the energy to continue running the hardware, and it needs water, the cheapest form of cooling mechanism to prevent the hardware from overheating.

According to the Environmental and Energy Study Institute, large data center can consume up to 5 million gallons of water per day, equivalent to the water use of a town populated by 10,000 to 50,000 people (Barnuevo, 2025).

Are we really going down the right path?
