The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr.and Undersecretary for Regional Operations Sancho A. Mabborang visited AML Food Products, also known as Baked by Baby AML Food Products, today, highlighting the agencyโ€™s continuing efforts to strengthen local enterprises through science, technology, and innovation.

Located in Barangay Guinacutan, Labo, Camarines Norte, AML Food Products was established in 2015 by Ms. Alyssa Hannah M. Luzarraga, building a family tradition into a growing food manufacturing enterprise specializing in cassava cakes and pastry products.

Through the DOST Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (DOST-SETUP), the enterprise received P339,116.00 in assistance in 2020, complemented by P533,758.17 in counterpart investment, for the upgrading of its production operations.

The intervention provided an eight-tray convection oven and a 42-liter spiral mixer, allowing the enterprise to transition from labor-intensive manual processes toward more efficient and semi-mechanized production. DOST also provided technical assistance on food handling and sanitation, Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), production process improvement, plant layout, and waste management.

These interventions have contributed to improved production efficiency, product consistency, and food safety practices, while supporting the enterpriseโ€™s capacity to serve a growing customer base.

During the visit, the enterprise was also introduced to the CUATRO Program, which supports MSMEs in advancing toward Industry 4.0 through the adoption of appropriate technologies and smarter production practices. The initiative provides a pathway for enterprises like AML Food Products to further improve productivity, efficiency, and competitiveness as they scale their operations.

AML Food Products is likewise exploring further mechanization, circular economy practices, and value-adding opportunities for production waste, while pursuing opportunities to expand its market beyond its current local reach.

The visit highlighted DOSTโ€™s continued commitment to empowering MSMEs through science, technology, and innovation, enabling them to modernize operations, strengthen competitiveness, create greater value from their resources, and confidently pursue new markets and opportunities for growth.

A new gateway for science learning and discovery opened in Dipolog City with the inauguration of the Dipolog City Science Centrum, providing learners and communities in the Zamboanga Peninsula with greater access to interactive and experiential science education.

Designed as a space where curiosity can lead to discovery, the Science Centrum allows students to explore scientific concepts beyond the traditional classroom through interactive exhibits and hands-on activities. By giving learners opportunities to observe, experiment, and engage with science, the facility seeks to make learning more meaningful, accessible, and inspiring.

For young learners, a visit to the Science Centrum can be the beginning of a journey that extends far beyond a single exhibit. An encounter with robotics, space science, engineering, or environmental science can spark an interest that may eventually lead to a research project, an invention, a career, or a solution to a community challenge.

The facility is expected to serve schools and learners across Zamboanga del Norte, while also welcoming visitors from Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga City, Basilan, and neighboring areas of Mindanao. Teachers can use the exhibits to complement classroom instruction, while students can bring their questions and discoveries back to their schools, homes, and communities.

The inauguration also marks another milestone in the Department of Science and Technologyโ€™s continuing efforts to expand access to science education nationwide. With the addition of the Dipolog City Science Centrum, the country now has 12 operating physical Science Centrums, complemented by the One DOST Virtual Science Centrum.

The virtual platform extends science learning into the digital space. Spearheaded by DOST Region V and funded by DOST-PCIEERD, the One DOST Virtual Science Centrum brings together immersive science experiences from pioneer Regional Science and Technology Centrums in MIMAROPA, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Davao.
Through 3D perspectives, gamified features, and interactive digital content, the virtual platform provides learners another way to explore science beyond physical facilities and geographical boundaries.

As the Dipolog City Science Centrum opens its doors, it also opens new possibilities for a generation that will shape the future of the region and the country through science, technology, and innovation.

The Department of Science and Technology Region IX (DOST IX) today launched its Satellite Calibration Laboratory at the DOST Provincial Science and Technology Office in Zamboanga del Norte as part of the Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Week (RSTW) 2026.

The new facility brings calibration services closer to businesses, government institutions, schools, and other users of measuring instruments in the province, reducing the need to travel to Zamboanga City for selected technical services.

The facility complements the DOST IX Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL), which provides accredited calibration services under PNS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 within its approved scope.

During the launch, DOST officials underscored the importance of accurate measurement in ensuring product quality, supporting compliance with standards, and improving the efficiency and competitiveness of local enterprises.

The establishment of the satellite laboratory also strengthens DOSTโ€™s presence in the province by making science and technology services more accessible to local stakeholders.

The Department of Science and Technology Region IX opened its Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Week (RSTW) in Dipolog City, spotlighting how science, technology, and digital innovation can address regional challenges and create opportunities for communities across the Zamboanga Peninsula.

With the subtheme, โ€œScience, Technology and Digital Innovation: Driving Food Security, Sustainable Energy, and National Resilience,โ€ this yearโ€™s celebration underscores the role of STI in strengthening local industries, improving public services, supporting livelihoods, and preparing communities for emerging challenges.

The regionโ€™s innovation landscape is reflected in DOST-supported initiatives such as the DSF Milkfish Brooding and Hatchery Facility, C-Trike Kit Developer and Training Center, DOST-JRMSU SIDLAK Technology Business Incubator, and DOST-Zamboanga del Norte i-HUB. These facilities support sustainable aquaculture, clean mobility, enterprise development, technical skills, and innovation.

The RSTW also highlights the regionโ€™s next steps in STI development, including the planned STI Building, the deployment of E-Tranvia in Dipolog and E-trikes in Dapitan, and the groundbreaking of the 3D-printed โ€œRizal: El Dapitanonโ€ monument, which merges advanced manufacturing with history, culture, and education.

Beyond these initiatives, DOST continues to strengthen local development through SETUP, CEST, and the Smart and Sustainable Communities Program (SSCP), helping enterprises adopt appropriate technologies and enabling communities to develop science-based solutions to local needs.

Through RSTW, DOST-IX provides a venue for exchanging ideas, showcasing technologies, strengthening partnerships, and identifying opportunities that can translate innovation into tangible benefits for the people.
