Narcotics Detection Dogs from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) helped detect approximately 12 kilograms of suspected shabu concealed in a vehicle during a joint anti-illegal drug interdiction operation that also resulted in the arrest of four individuals at Batangas Port, Barangay Sta. Clara, Batangas City, on 07 October 2026.

The PCG, through the Coast Guard K9-Explosive Ordnance Disposal Forceโ€™s Field Operating Unit Southern Tagalog (CGK9-EODF FOU-STL), under the operational control of Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog, joined the PDEA-led operation alongside the Philippine Ports Authority, PNP Maritime Group, ATI Batangas, and other partner agencies.

Upon the arrival of M/V Trans-Asia 20 from Caticlan Port, Malay, Aklan, the composite team conducted K9 paneling inspections at Ramp 2, covering disembarking passengers and rolling cargo. A black pickup truck was flagged down after PCG and PDEA Narcotics Detection Dogs indicated the possible presence of illegal drugs.

A subsequent inspection revealed approximately 12,000 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as โ€œshabu,โ€ concealed in the vehicleโ€™s rear fender area, with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of PHP 81.6 million.

The composite team secured the area while PDEA personnel conducted the marking and inventory of the recovered evidence. The four arrested individuals and seized suspected illegal drugs were placed under PDEA custody for proper disposition and the filing of appropriate cases for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The PCG continues to strengthen cooperation with partner agencies and deploy its trained K9 teams to help protect ports and maritime communities against illegal drugs.

Just last March of this year, the Force Commander with four (4) other personnel were invited for a study tour and facility visit to the CBSA College in Rigaud, Quebec where they witnessed the graduation ceremony of their Border Officer's and Detector Dog Training Program.

Plans are now being laid out for more engagements for December 2026, January 2027, and April 2027, where two (2) CGK9-EOD Force personnel will be undergoing their 10-week detector dog training program at the CBSA College.

Under the direct guidance of the Commandant, Admiral RONNIE GIL L GAVAN PCG, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has mobilized its K9 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units to secure 15 localized testing centers across the country for the 2026 Bar Examinations.

These security operations span the official examination dates of September 6, 9, and 13, 2026, safeguarding approximately 13,000 aspiring lawyers nationwide. Led Commander, CGK9-EOD Force, highly trained K9 teams are conducting continuous sweeping, paneling, and monitoring at designated testing venues.

This proactive deployment aims to deter potential threats and maintain a peaceful, secure environment for the examinees, support personnel, and Supreme Court organizers.

This security initiative aligns with the rigorous standards set by the Supreme Court, under the leadership of 2026 Bar Chairperson Justice Samuel H. Gaerlan, to guarantee a seamless, orderly, and highly secure examination process.

Admiral Gavan reaffirmed the PCGโ€™s steadfast commitment to public safety, emphasizing that this deployment ensures future legal professionals can complete their examinations with absolute peace of mind. The CGK9-EOD Force will maintain a maximum alert status and continuous visibility across all designated testing zones until the final examination day concludes and all venues are safely cleared.

Proud moment for our Coast Guard K9 Team!

This is what genuine public service is all about being there when people need help, especially during moments when they are vulnerable and in need of assistance.

Kudos to the CGK9 Team Ortigas, together with MRT Ortigas station, security, and medical personnel, for showing compassion, dedication, and professionalism in serving our commuters.

Salute to all our frontliners who continue to serve with malasakit and heart. Your actions, big or small, make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we serve.
