PNP SAF Commandos Encounter CTG in Camarines Sur;
One Enemy Dead

Lagonoy, Camarines Sur – On May 20, 2024, personnel from SAF Commando Course Class 123-2023; 94SAC, 9SAB; and 81SAC, RDB of the Special Action Force engaged in an intense firefight with enemies in Brgy. Guibahoy, Lagonoy, Camarines Sur.

While performing reconnaissance near their established patrol base, the operating troops encountered more or less nine members of the Communist Terrorist Group from Platoon 1, Komiteng Larangang Gerilya 1, Sub-Regional Committee 2 under the command of Virgel Balcueva a.k.a. Joey/Dissan/Dizan/James.

The encounter resulted in the death of one CTG member and recovery of several items including one caliber 40 pistol, one magazine for caliber 40 pistol, seven rounds of ammunition for caliber 40, six cartridges of caliber 40 ammunition, one bolo, and one pair of rain boots.

No casualties were reported on the government side. SAF troops initiated a hot pursuit operation to track down the fleeing insurgents. Additionally, adjacent combat groups have been alerted to establish blockades along potential escape routes and provide possible reinforcements to operating troops.

The encounter underscores the ongoing efforts of government forces to maintain peace and security by dismantling insurgent groups operating in the region.
