๐๐๐๐: On 28 to 29 May 2026, the Coast Guard Human Resource Management Command (CGHRMC), through the Human Resource Management School (HRMS), successfully conducted a two (2)-day Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for forty (40) CGHRMC personnel in coordination with the Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-Unit Base Taguig. The activity forms part of the Commandโs continuing capability development initiatives and commitment to operational readiness and personnel welfare.
The training was facilitated by LT BERNADETTE L MILAY PCG, Chief Nurse of NSSU Base Taguig, together with LTJG EUGENE M CASYAO PCG, ENS BERKIS A BALUAN PCG, SW1 Sarah Jane P Dayot PCG, SN1 Mharlord L Sabado PCG, SW2 Kimberly M Vicedo PCG, SW2 Andrada A Mahdi PCG, and ASW Marcelyn C Malik PCG, who served as instructors and resource persons throughout the duration of the training.
Accordingly, this training is in line with the directive of the Commandant, Philippine Coast Guard to equip PCG personnel with BLS training.
Further, the program aimed to promote preparedness, rapid intervention, and immediate life-saving care for individuals experiencing cardiac arrest or respiratory failure until advanced medical assistance arrives. Moreover, the BLS training focused on essential competencies such as performing high-quality chest compressions, rescue breathing, proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and management of choking incidents involving adults, children, and infants to improve survival outcomes during emergencies.
Participants from the different CGHRMC Centers, Sub-Units, and Staff Offices actively engaged in lectures, demonstrations, and simulation exercises designed to reinforce proper emergency procedures and strengthen response capabilities. Through hands-on practice and guided instruction, participants gained the confidence and competence necessary to deliver timely and appropriate life-saving interventions while awaiting professional medical assistance.
Aligned with the Commandโs commitment to the Performance Governance System (PGS), the activity supports the continuous enhancement of organizational capability, professional development, and operational excellence among CGHRMC personnel. The training also reflects CGHRMCโs dedication to building a highly responsive and mission-ready workforce capable of addressing emergency situations effectively and efficiently.
Through this initiative, CGHRMC successfully equipped participants with essential life-saving skills and increased their readiness to respond to emergencies. The knowledge and practical experience gained from the training will further promote safety, preparedness, and effective emergency care in support of the Commandโs mandate and mission as Coastguardians.
