Upcycle Accessory Design Competition‼️
Qualifications:
•Open to all Designer/Aspiring Designer must be 15-30 years old.
• Resident of Barangay Poblacion, Tacurong City
• The Designer must attend the Orientation on August 26,2023 at Barangay Poblacion Gymnasium at exactly 1pm.
Guidelines and Mechanics:
•The focus of this competition is to raise awareness to choose to recycle or upcycling items that otherwise would be destined for the landfill. 100% of the accessory must be made from recyclable waste and/or materials. No perishable food items may be used.
•One common material must be observed.
•Using of hot glue is prohibited.
•The accessory must be hand crafted and possible for reproduction.
•It can be a headpiece, neckpiece,earings, bangles, bags, belt or shoe.
Material Suggestions:
Consider how these items can be cut, folded, molded, knotted, shredded, stitched, woven or reconstructed to make an accesory. Make sure that everything that you use has been cleaned well with no food or drink residual.
•Scraps of textiles or tiles, aluminum, steel
•Paper or plastic bags, magazines, books, phone books, flyers, office papers and envelops (used, not new!)
•Beverage bottle caps, six-pack rings, straws
•Burlap or canvas bags, fabric scraps, pre-owned clothing
•Old toys, game pieces, puzzle pieces, holiday decorations
•Packaging materials like bubble wrap, foam peanuts, and paper
•Food and drink containers – i.e. boxes, bottles, plastic tubs, Keurig pods
•Paper towel, wrapping paper, and toilet paper rolls
•Anything found from the garbage or recycling bin
Submission:
•Submission of the entries will be on August 28,2023 until 3pm at the barangay poblacion hall.
•Submit a brief discription of the accessory
Printed into a short bondpaper.
Judging:
Entries will be judged by a panel of 3 judges based on the following criteria. Each judge will score designs independently of the other judges with the scores from each judge being tallied to determine one winner for each division. Prizes will be awarded as designated by the judges. All judges’ decisions are final and not subject to change.
1. Visual Impact (20 points)
There is only one chance to make a great first impression, so make sure that your design has a “wow factor” that grabs the judge’s attention the first moment they see it, that makes them want to see more.
2. Design Concept (20 points)
Does your design have a concept behind it? Is there pattern, texture, and balance within the design? Is it obvious what you were going for? Make it sure that the accessory must adhere to the concept.
3. Construction/Craftsmanship (20 points)
Is your accessory constructed well? Will it fall apart tomorrow? How is your garment held together? How wearable your accessory? How well does it function? Is it safe to be worn? Were the items used to construct the piece used sparingly and either well-hidden or enhance the design?
4. Creativity (20 points)
How original is your accessory? Is the design intentional? Is there a focal point? Does the overall design flow well together? Does the weight of the recyclable materials make sense with the design?
5. Use of Recyclable Materials (20 points)
Were the materials reused, recycled or found? Does the type of material used flow with the style of the accessory?How well did you manipulate the recyclable materials to enhance the design?
