| 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗙𝗔 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝘆𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗔𝗔𝗗 𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

𝗦𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗼, 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝘆𝘁𝗲 – From being subsistence farmers to a successful community-based enterprise, the Inolinan Women’s Association (IWA) in San Ricardo, Southern Leyte began earning from the egg production project granted in July by the Department of Agriculture - Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program.

The women’s association was among SAAD’s recipients of livelihood interventions for FY 2026, receiving 480 heads of ready-to-lay (RTL) chickens and 44 bags of layer feeds, delivered in July, following their participation in the program’s capacity-building training.

Within just a month of livelihood operation, IWA already earned gross sales of P11,265.00, with a significant increase in production rate. From 6.19% since the beginning of production, to 29.88% as of August 2026, and the numbers are still increasing.

| 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹: 𝗟𝗲𝘆𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝗔𝗔𝗗-𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗴𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀

In a bid to empower more farmers groups and enhance local agricultural production, eight (8) farmers associations from Leyte Province have officially launched new egg production enterprises through the Department of Agriculture - Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program Phase 2.

To help establish these enterprises, the SAAD Program distributed 480 RTL chickens, 10 sets of poultry cages, and 44 bags of feed to each association. Before receiving these inputs, beneficiaries underwent comprehensive training in poultry management to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to run the project successfully.

𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 | DA-SAAD brings FPL guidelines to Eastern Visayas to enhance livelihood sustainability

To institutionalize data-driven operations and strengthen the delivery and sustainability of livelihood projects, the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) National Program Management Office (NPMO) led the rollout of the unified Food Production and Livelihood (FPL) Guidelines for Eastern Visayas on August 4–6, 2026, in Tacloban City.

To most people, an egg is an ordinary commodity. But for the members of the Hindang Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (HIFAC) in Hindang, Leyte, each one represents another step toward a more secure future for their families.

Through the Department of Agriculture - Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program, HIFAC received the FY 2024 Egg Production Project which included 480 hens, layer feeds and other farm inputs. Through these, the cooperative transformed its poultry livelihood into a growing enterprise by making one simple but significant decision: reinvest part of its earnings instead of spending them all.
