Beyond Compliance. Towards Better Public Service.
Earlier today, the City Tourism Operations Office participated in the 2026 Regional Local Governance Champions (RLGC) Assessment at the DILG Regional Office VIII, in preparation for the 2027 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).
We are grateful to have passed all the applicable Tourism indicators assessed by the Regional Assessment Team (RAT).
But beyond the green marks on an assessment sheet, we see these indicators as something more important: proof that our programs, systems, and services are being put in place to serve people better.
Because good governance is not only about having the right documents, policies, plans, and programs. These are important, but they are only the foundation.
The real measure is what happens beyond the paperwork.
It is the visitor who receives the right information and assistance.
It is the local community that finds opportunities through tourism.
It is the heritage that is preserved and given meaning to the next generation.
It is the culture that continues to be celebrated.
It is the local tourism worker, entrepreneur, and stakeholder who benefits from a stronger tourism sector.
Ultimately, governance is experienced, not just assessed.
We also extend our appreciation to the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), which served as the secretariat for the assessment and played a vital role in guiding and supporting the different offices throughout the process. This achievement reflects the collaboration, coordination, and collective effort of the City Government.
For the City Tourism Operations Office, this assessment is not simply a checklist accomplished. It is a reminder of our responsibility to continuously improve how we serve, develop, preserve, and promote tourism in Tacloban City.
We take this achievement with gratitude and a renewed commitment to make every program and every service meaningful, responsive, and felt by the community.
