The Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Port of Tacloban held its Local Onboarding Programme for Newly Hired Employees on September 15, 2026, at the Port Conference Room. The activity provided newly hired personnel with an orientation on their respective roles and responsibilities, as well as the importance of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in public service. Resource speakers from the Administrative, Assessment, Port Operations, and Enforcement Divisions shared essential information on their respective functions and internal workflows to promote effective coordination and the efficient delivery of customs services.

Through the guidance of 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐬 𝐓. 𝐓𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐬, the Port of Tacloban continues to strengthen its workforce in support of the Bureau’s mandate and commitment to public service. The initiative likewise supports the reforms advanced by 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥 𝐅. 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐨 in developing competent and service-oriented personnel who contribute to the delivery of the customs mandate, uphold public trust, and serve the Filipino people with dedication.

BOC RECOGNIZES NAVAL COMMAND WESTERN MINDANAO FOR SUCCESSFUL MARITIME ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS

Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno recognized Rear Admiral Constancio Arturo Reyes Jr. and the Naval Command Western Mindanao (NCWM) for their continued efforts in securing the country's maritime borders following the successful conduct of maritime enforcement operations that led to the confiscation of approximately P99.65 million worth of alleged contraband in Western Mindanao from August 28 to September 3.

The operations resulted in the seizure of undocumented diesel fuel valued at P72.17 million, smuggled foreign-brand ci******es and a motor vessel worth P27.23 million, and illegally transported Lauan lumber valued at P251,999.

On September 10, 2026, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Port of Tacloban, together with the Subports of Isabel and Catbalogan, organized a Capacity Building Program on Calamity and Emergency Preparedness. The activity was held onsite at the Port of Tacloban Conference Room and simultaneously through Microsoft Teams to allow the participation of personnel from the Subports. The program emphasized the importance of preparedness and safety in maintaining an effective and responsive public service.

The discussion was led by Port of Tacloban 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐏/𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐭. 𝐋𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐂. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨, who highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness, workplace safety, and coordinated action during emergencies. He also recognized and commended 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐬 𝐓. 𝐓𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐬 for serving as the Overall Supervising and Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) as part of the Port of Tacloban Safety and Health Committee. Following the discussion, an emergency drill was carried out to practice the proper response to an earthquake scenario, strengthening personnel readiness and coordination during emergencies.

The program supports the directives of 𝐁𝐎𝐂 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥 𝐅. 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐨 to enhance preparedness, strengthen resilience, and safeguard personnel and stakeholders. Through continuous capacity-building and emergency preparedness activities, the Port of Tacloban and its Subports remain committed to maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring the continuous delivery of essential customs services to the public, even during emergencies.

BOC CHIEF COMMENDS PNP FOR KEY ROLE IN ₱960M ANTI-SMUGGLING OPERATION

Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno lauded the Philippine National Police (PNP) for intercepting 15 container trucks carrying nearly ₱960 million worth of suspected smuggled ci******es in Bataan and Pampanga.

Commissioner Nepomuceno recognized the PNP, and the other police units involved for their vigilance, intelligence work, and prompt action that prevented the shipment from reaching its intended destination.

The Bureau of Customs – Port of Tacloban, under the leadership of District Collector Atty. Francis T. Tolibas, surpassed its August 2026 collection target, reflecting the commitment of its personnel to fulfilling the Bureau’s mandate and serving the public with efficiency and accountability.

The Port collected ₱304,229,500.60 million, exceeding its ₱264,904,797.65 target by ₱39,324,702.95, equivalent to a 14.84% surplus. The accomplishment highlights the Port’s continued efforts to ensure efficient customs operations, strong compliance, and responsive public service.

The achievement supports Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno’s priorities of streamlining customs processes, strengthening collection efforts, and enhancing the delivery of quality services to the public.⁩
