π‡πˆπ†π‡π‹πˆπ†π‡π“π’ | LC celebrates Women's Month, COCJ dominates student competitions
In celebration of National Women's Month with the theme "Lead Like the Babaylans Filipinas," Leyte Colleges held a special program at the Activity Center on March 30, 2026.
The program opened with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by an invocation and opening remarks delivered by the Head of Operations and Academics, Dr. Josefa Yasmin A. Moriel. Dr. Moriel shared an inspiring message, drawing from the words of Malala Yousafzai: "I raise my voice not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard." Her remarks encouraged every woman in attendance to speak up and step forward β€” because you have the right to lead, the right to be heard, and above all, you are valued. Lead like the Babaylans Filipinas.
The Supreme Student Council then took center stage, presenting two engaging activities: a poster making contest and a spoken word poetry competition. Serving as the panel of judges were Mr. Ivan Lacbayo, Head of the Student Affairs and Services Office; Dr. Josefa Yasmin A. Moriel, Head of Operations and Academics; and Dr. Amador Astilla, III, Dean of the College of Criminal Justice.
In the poster making contest, the participants showcased creativity and advocacy through their artwork. The College of Criminal Justice (COCJ) took first place, the College of Education (COED) earned second, and the College of Business and Office Administration (CBOA) claimed third. In the spoken word poetry competition, COCJ continued its strong showing, claiming first, while COED secured second.
The celebration concluded with the awarding of certificates and heartfelt closing remarks delivered by Supreme Student Council representative Ms. Kyle Delapena.

Celebrating National Women’s Month

This National Women’s Month, we proudly honor the strength, wisdom, and resilience of Filipinas who have shaped our history and continue to inspire change today. From the Babaylanβ€”powerful women leaders and spiritual guides in our pre-colonial pastβ€”to the modern Filipinas who lead in education, community service, arts, governance, and many other fields, women have always been at the heart of progress.

Let us celebrate the courage, leadership, and compassion of every woman who breaks barriers, uplifts others, and helps build a more equal and inclusive society. May we continue to empower one another, amplify women’s voices, and inspire the next generation to lead with confidence and purpose.

On March 4, 2026, the staff and faculty of Leyte Colleges wore purple in celebration of National Women’s Month, embracing the theme β€œWE for Gender Equality and an Inclusive Society.” More than just a theme, it is a bold declaration that achieving equality requires unity. β€œWE” represents collective strengthβ€”breaking barriers, challenging inequality, and building a society where every voice matters and every opportunity is shared.

π—œπ—‘ 𝗣𝗛𝗒𝗧𝗒𝗦 | Leyte Times makes history at 4th National Campus Journalism Convention
Nine student journalists and their adviser represent Leyte Colleges on the national stage β€” and return home with awards in hand.
For the first time in its history, Leyte Colleges sent a delegation to the 4th National Campus Journalism Convention, held from March 6 to 8, 2026 at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel in Sta. Cruz, Manila. Nine student journalists, accompanied by their adviser, were among the 386 student and adviser participants from 60 participating schools across the country β€” a landmark gathering united by a shared commitment to truth, growth, and responsible journalism. Beyond the exchange of ideas and perspectives, the three-day event also served as an invaluable training ground for the young members of the Leyte Times publication.
On the final day of the convention, the delegation marched with unmistakable pride in green and gold as Leyte Times emerged victorious in the competition β€” claiming awards in both the Best School Publication Papers (Newsletter and Magazine) and Documentary categories. The historic debut was not only a milestone for Leyte Colleges but a testament to the passion and dedication of its student journalists, who proved on a national platform that their voices β€” and their stories β€” are worthy of recognition.
