𝗙𝗙𝗦 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗲𝗿, 𝗟𝗲𝘆𝘁𝗲

As part of the Farmer Field School (FFS) activities in Javier, Leyte, farmer-participants took part in a hands-on training on the preparation of Fermented Lacto Bacillus, Super Calcium, and Soil Nutrient Enhancer.

The activity was led by Ms. Maria April Bayot of the SRI Project Team, who guided the farmers through the proper preparation and utilization of these locally available materials.

The hands-on session aimed to equip farmers with practical knowledge on utilizing locally available materials to support soil health, reduce dependence on external inputs, and promote sustainable rice production.🌾🍃

Farmer's Field School activity on Rice Production held in Barangay Bugas, Borongan City, Eastern Samar on August 26, 2026.

Agro-Ecosystem Analysis (AESA) data collection and data presentation of findings was conducted by farmer participants and facilitated by City Agriculture and SCALE UP Program of DA RFO8.

Two special topics on Rice Morphology and Phases and Stages of Rice was discussed by the City Agriculturist Mr. Macario A. Gabornes.

𝗜𝗖𝗬𝗠𝗜: 𝗣𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗲𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗯𝘂𝘆𝗼𝗴, 𝗟𝗲𝘆𝘁𝗲

Two back-to-back trainings on Pest Management were successfully conducted on August 12 and 19, 2026 at Paguite, Abuyog, Leyte, as part of the Farmer Field School on Vegetable Production program.

Dr. Brenda Almeroda, Senior Science Research Specialist of Abuyog Experiment Station, led the first training session focusing on Integrated Pest Management and Biological Control Agents (BCAs) produced by the DA-RFO8. It was emphasized that these BCAs are available for farmer distribution upon request and as long as supplies last.

Mr. Melvince R. Martirez, Instructor from the VSU Department of Pest Management, facilitated the second session focusing on common vegetable diseases and their control. The training also included discussions on chemical safety and handling, with farmers reminded that chemical interventions should remain a last resort in Integrated Pest Management.

𝗙𝗙𝗦 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀: 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗞𝗶𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗲𝗿, 𝗟𝗲𝘆𝘁𝗲

Farmer-participants of the Farmer Field School (FFS) in Javier, Leyte underwent hands-on training on proper soil sampling and the use of soil test kits held last Thursday at Brgy. Binulho.

The soil sampling session was facilitated by Mr. Edmond Odon, Agriculturist I of the Regional Soils Laboratory, who guided the farmers on the proper methods of collecting soil samples. This was followed by a Soil Test Kit (STK) training facilitated by Mr. Jayvee de la Torre, Registered Chemist from the Soils Laboratory, providing farmers with practical knowledge on assessing soil conditions.

The activity was successfully conducted through the support of the Municipal Agriculture Office of Javier, particularly in providing transportation assistance to the farmer-participants from Brgy. Ulhay.

Ms. Celerina Binueza, owner of Bonife-Binueza Agricultural Farm, has served as a SCALE UP Lead Farmer and Facilitator since the program's 2022 implementation.

𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗘 𝗨𝗣 𝗙𝗙𝗦 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀: 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘆

Farmer participants of the vegetable Farmer Field School (FFS) in Paguite, Abuyog underwent a Soil Sampling and Soil Test Kit training conducted by the Regional Soils Laboratory on August 5, 2026.

Mr. Edmond Odon facilitated the Soil Sampling session, discussing the key steps and reminders in collecting soil samples in the field and providing a demonstration. Ms. Evangeline Garing then led the Soil Test Kit training and walking the participants through the steps of soil analysis. Farmers took part by testing soil samples brought by the Regional Soils Laboratory.

The activity gave farmers hands-on experience in soil testing and the value of science-based farming technologies. Through trainings like this, SCALE UP continues to promote practical farming technologies that support regenerative and precision agriculture.

The SCALE UP Program successfully conducted a Soil Health Card Orientation at Brgy. Binulho Gymnasium, Javier, Leyte, with farmers from different barangays in attendance. The activity featured Dr. Suzette B. Lina, Co-Study Leader of Component 2 and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Science, as the resource speaker. Dr. Lina discussed the proper interpretation and utilization of the Soil Health Card, emphasizing the importance of applying the right fertilizer at the right rate and at the right time to promote sustainable and productive rice farming.

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞: 𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗘 𝗨𝗣 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟮 𝗥𝗗𝗘 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

During its third year of implementation, the SCALE UP Program once again recognized with the "Best Completed Development Paper" among submitted papers under the Development Category during the Cluster 1, Level 2, RDE Review held at ATI-RTC8 on July 30–31, 2026.

By combining site-specific nutrient management recommendations, targeted capability-building trainings, and market and livelihood enhancement initiatives, SCALE UP has demonstrated measurable impact on the farming communities reached.

However, this achievement would not be possible without the collective effort and unwavering dedication of everyone involved. The program is grateful to all the farmers, LGU stakeholders, and private partners whose active participation and continued support made this possible. The SCALE UP team looks forward to sustaining this momentum and continued collaboration in the future.
