Patiño and notably became a public institution. Placer Municipal High School catered to students coming from the nearby barangays of Placer Municipality. The students were clustered and took shelter at the Dona Helen
Cultural Center (DOME) serving them as their classroom and some rooms of the engineering office. There were only 9 teachers who initiated and shared education with the students, namely: Catalina Romero, Part-time Principal; Benito Hermosa, Head Teacher; Mercedes P. Dedumo, Elisa V. Patino, Lorna Romero, Teresita Josol, Clementino Palma, Alejandria Patiño, Amy Tiujongco, Purisa Antido, and Cresencia Patiño. Time passed, and the community leaders came up with a plan to acquire a school site and build more rooms to accommodate more students. Thus, in 1983, the first principal's concerted efforts to request lot acquisition and buildings became reality. Placer Municipal High School then converted to Placer National High School and acquired an accessible location at Barangay Magsaysay, Placer, Surigao del Norte with a total area of 60,000 square meters.
